PFT: Former No. 3 Overall pick Trey Lance to hit free agency

I bet there is more interest in Lance than people think. He would be an ideal backup for a heavy RPO or read option team. Might even be a decent competition piece as a starter for a team like Indy. They have a shaky situation at QB as is, and Lance would be best suited running a similar offense as Richardson. Not saying he would win a starting job, but he would be perfect to push a young struggling QB without going after for a higher end/more accomplished competitor who might be split the locker room.

Interestingly it appears they have no interest in bringing him back after all the resources and time wasted.

Sneaky team is Washington. Mariota is gone

“That’s why we gave a [fourth-round pick] for Trey. It seems like all the quarterbacks, even guys we have in the fourth round, go in the first. They always go so much higher than what you think,” Jones said

I guess that's why we gave a 4th for Jonathan Mingo. Grossly underperforming rookie receivers go for...much...higher.....than.....

Or, Jerry is an idiot and got fleeced by the 49ers. The league should have a policy to review trades made by special needs general managers like ours.

He couldn’t start for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Yep good pick. It sure of the backups around the league and their contract statuses but Philly, Baltimore, buffalo, Indy all would fit him schematically. Then you have all the teams who don’t really have a firm plan at qb right now that could look at him as a lottery ticket to bring to camp…..LV, both NY teams, etc.

I think when a team pays 3 1sts for him and then almost immediately is happy to get a 4th in trade, you know the moment he walks off the tarmac that it was either dysfunction related or talent related… and he seems by all accounts to be a good kid.
True but I think its hard to believe Shanahan ( QB guru ) could hit and miss on a 1st round QB that much ( give up three 1st rounds picks.....damn )

Yeah it was a pretty bad miss too. The kid played 1 year of college football at a 1-AA team that won before he was there, and continued to win immediately after he left. They just won the national championship yet again.

So Shanahan had to have seen something beyond his play that said he was a sure fire dominant QB. And it just wasn’t there

Oh please, he would be league MVP lol. 20-34, 266 and no ints against Washington will get a few NFL teams to bite this offseason. He was a total square peg/round hole situation in Dallas. It may be as a backup somewhere but he will find a team with a better system for his skill set.

There's no way Jerry and Stephen aren't trolling us. I'm not even joking when I say some of us on here could run the football side of things better than those troglodytes.

Most teams want a backup with some significant playing time. Starts, playoff experience. Look at it this way. Kansas City’s and Philadelphia’s back up quarterbacks both have led teams to the playoffs, both have Super Bowl rings. That’s a back up quarterback. Trey Lance couldn’t start in the UFL. Might be a back up in the CFL.
