PFT: Former No. 3 Overall pick Trey Lance to hit free agency

“That’s why we gave a [fourth-round pick] for Trey. It seems like all the quarterbacks, even guys we have in the fourth round, go in the first. They always go so much higher than what you think,” Jones said

I guess that's why we gave a 4th for Jonathan Mingo. Grossly underperforming rookie receivers go for...much...higher.....than.....

Or, Jerry is an idiot and got fleeced by the 49ers. The league should have a policy to review trades made by special needs general managers like ours.
Yeah. Fleeced for a 4th rounder. Whoopie

Where are all of the apologists who said a 4th round pick was nothing and a great deal for trading for the bust known as Trey Lance?

**looking at all of you Dak critics**

He’s UFA…not sure this is a big story.

Looking at a 2Y/10M deal from Dallas.

They’ve invested 18 months in the kid.

It’s time to promote him to QB2.

Dak is expensive and is aging out.
They offered him a deal late in the season, it was not for $5 million per season, but whatever the offer he rejected it. The Cowboys will not be making him another. Any deal he gets from an NFL team now will be predicated on his making the team. That is highly unlikely.

We just need to stop making trades. Just stop completely. I don't think we've been on the receiving end of one trade that didn't go south since Jimmy left. It's unbelievable.

That is a good question. I thought that he was OK to take a flyer on but no way I would’ve given a fourth for him. Preferably a sixth but nothing more than a compensation pick in the fifth. And why you’d give a fourth for somebody like Mingo boggles the mind. If I were drunk, and the general manager, I might give them a seventh, otherwise just wait until they cut him and pick him up on waivers to have a look at him. heck, some general managers will even make a trade conditional on how the player performs when he gets to your team.
There always seems to be some good running backs in the fourth round. Man it would’ve been great to spend those two fourth round pics on some RBs. I just don’t get the argument that a fourth round pick is nothing so don’t worry about just throwing it away for hoots and grins

They should have traded him after the 2023 preseason.

It would be sickening if the Cowboys had developed him just enough to where 2025 was going to be his breakout season and he ends up going Kurt Warner on us.

well, didn't we get hankins on a trade and that was not bad.

Do you really think Lance would be in the middle of a "long successful career" if it weren't for Jerry?

The notion that Jerry held him back is off base because the one thing Jerry craves is credit for success, and if Lance had success in Dallas that would allow Jerry to take credit for something other teams didn't see or were unwilling to do.

The reality is Lance didn't do enough to earn his way on the field.
In this case Lance had a $60M barrier preventing him from advancing.

Huh?????

That couldn't be further from the truth.
