DAVIS COULD HAVE GOTTEN EVEN BIGGER MONEY

As eyebrows continue to be stuck in the raised position regarding the contract that the Dallas Cowboys gave to offensive lineman Leonard Davis, we're told that Davis actually could have gotten even more money elsewhere.

Per a league source, the Giants were interested in handing Davis even more than the $18.75 million guaranteed he got from Dallas, since the Giants were recruiting him to exclusively play the more lucrative position of left tackle.

But Davis decided that he wanted to join the Cowboys, where for now he's most likely to play right guard. Down the road, he could move to right tackle -- and he possibly could be the eventual replacement for Flozell Adams at left tackle.

How many times do I have to tell you PFT, being told by the schizophrenic voices in your head do not count as a league source.

Actually this was covered about the time we did sign Davis and from multiple sources.

I think even Davis touched on it that he was offered more money but decided to come to Dallas.

So...the question does not appear to be the validity of this specific information...the question to me is why are they reporting it NOW after it was pretty much already talked about a week or more ago.

why play LT with New York when you can get LT money playing guard for Dallas? guard is an easier position to play, especially when you're a top 10 bust from Arizona

Well originally, it was assumed that Washington was the major player for his services with the Giants also showing interest. I don't recall him making the visit to NY, but then my memory might be faulty.

So the story played out that Washington was the primary competitor for his services and the 'boys beat them out (....again ;) ) I don't know how many folks knew the Giants were alot closer than they were.

It always pleases me to know when players come to the Cowboys for less money than what was offered elsewhere.

I know, right?

You would think he would have felt more at home with Washington (who was also pursuing him) where they don't mind quite so much that you aren't worth the money you're getting.

AND he could have played guard.

How sweet would that have been?

There was an article or blurb last week or the week before that someone in the Giants FO said the would spend what it took to bring in Davis to play OT.

I also seem to recall that the word was that Davis did not even really consider the Giants and narrowed it down between the Boys and skins because he did not want to play in new york due to weather and for Coughlin.

I am not blasting you for posting this article..I was just curious as to why they (PFT) would wait till now to say it since this has been talked about in some manner for a week or more in different articles.

Shhh.

Contrary to what the Skins other fans or higher ups want you to believe...they indeed WANTED Davis and it was not some elaborate plan to just make the price higher for dallas.

Soo....Shhh.

Makes sense.

Didn't think you were blasting me. With PFT, who knows why do what they do or report what they report.

I will say this though, I think the folks in the media are still stunned at the money being thrown around this offseason. There are still alot of blog reports at the numbers being doled out and how some guys weren't worth their contracts.

I believe the next agenda that's being pushed is "average" guys can command that kinda money, then what should the "stars" begin to expect.

Yep I agree.

If the average to slightly better than average GUARDS are getting paid this much money than just imagine when a All-Pro Level OT becomes a FA and what their current team has to pay or a new team has to pay.

And really could you blame the player or their agent for saying...hey this GUARD got this money so this LT should get even more.

You are correct. It's odd how people forget so quickly. You know Elvis died too. I guess if old news is forgotten news then...

Funny thing about it is...the deal was not much different according to LD's own words. He said the deals were similar.

But go ahead and believe what you want.

Believe whatever you want if it helps you feel better about not getting the player you wanted and settling for Ross Tucker.

But hey, at least you goot Smooty's Booty back, right?
