I think Wade has too much pride to take a demotion in Dallas and become the DC. How would you feel if you were in his shoes?

I totally understand that. The thing is, he may not want to deal with the upfront circus anymore of being this teams HC. In that case, he can cut that mental junk in half, coach this defense that he has clicking and Jerry will throw give him a raise to $3.5 million a year which will make it a bonus. This may be a mutual decision as opposed to Wade being demoted. Right now Wade would tell you no way. Lets see if we make the playoffs and what happens after that. Wade is home here but he's putting up with a constant circus for money he could be getting for being way more relaxed in his 60's.

He's got his shot to go after the title this year. If he gets it or close to it, yah he'll want to still be HC and deservedly so. But if not, who knows what he'll want to do. Yes the man has pride, he's a good man, but he also has brains. I think Jerry likes Wade as his HC and it might be something Wade might look at and initiate. This players tires guys out. Wade's trying to keep it calm but you can tell he's a bit burned out. I'd be and im more than half his age.

Holgren sucks! He benefitted for being in a sucky division!

You're out of your mind! It's all about the QB with him, and he molded Hassleback into a darn good one. Oh yeah...and that Farve guy.

It's an interesting story,and thought, but I really don't see Mike here. I've been wrong before though.

I hope this does not become the next week long distraction. Whatever Dallas does it will be done at the end of the year right now it is football season and I hope the media leaves this along when talking with players.

:starspin Excellent point, we need to leave the coaching situation alone until the season is over and just focus on winning games right now.

What's it going to be then, eh?

2) He's tainted - deep down, he hates the Dallas Cowboys. We knocked his Packers out of the playoffs almost every year he was in Green Bay. I know he's a professional, but he is very tainted.

Coach Parcells was "tainted" too then.

Never happen....

Why replace Wade when the team is finally showing signs of growth and heart...we could still miss the playoffs, but no one can deny the team isn't on the right track at this point.

Also, why bring in an offensive Head Coach when you have tied up a ton of big money in Jason Garrett who runs an entirely different offense?

Imagine this:

HC = Mike Holmgren
DC = Wade Phillips
OC = Norv Turner

I can't see Wade accepting being demoted in the team that he was a HC for. If he ever becomes a DC ever again, he may try to go back with the Chargers since he knows the players who have high respect for him and the fans/office people love him there. Also, it doesn't hurt that it's San Diego.

Makes no sense to me for 2 main reasons:

1) West Coast Offense - this involves shorter pass patterns, and IMO, would drive Romo crazy. Holmgren would want this offense because that is his MO. It wouldn't suit Romo..

To expand on that:

The current O-line is not suited for the WCO, who rely more on lighter, but quicker, linemen. That's one of the main reasons why Bruce Costlet only lasted one season as an O-coordinator in Dallas. Bringing in Holmgren would require a complete restructuring of the offense ( philosophically AND practically ) and with Flo, Gurode, Big LD, and now Columbo signed to long term contract it's just not going to happen.

I don't think Tony would have a problem with it. Remember who he's always compared to and what offense that guy played in ( Favre ). As a matter of fact, it might be even more beneficial for him because it just might force Tony to concentrate a little bit more on his mechanics, which are currently out of whack, by the way.

But the O-line angle prevents any such pairing.

I've been saying for over a year that Jerry has always wanted Holmgren here.

Not going to happen though most likely. He's building a house in the San Francisco Bay area. if he goes anywhere, my money is on the 9ers.

Now that would make sense.

That would be the only way he'd ever win in Dallas. Texas stadium owns him and Favre and with one game left at T.S. I don't see either of them winning there.....

yea i was gonna post that the ideal thing would be Wade as our DC but i seriously doubt he goes for it not that i would blame him. basically it would be Jerry saying your not good enough to be the coach of the whole team and that would be embarassing for him if he still remained with the team. So sadly no way it happens...

To add to what you said, besides Brett Favre and Matt Hasselbeck, he had Joe Montana and Steve Young in San Francisco. He also coached Steve Young in college, at BYU.

Like player, like former coach. This season was supposed to be the last in Seattle and the last in the coaching career of Mike Holmgren of the Seahawks, who led the Green Bay Packers from 1992-'98 and into two Super Bowls. But last week Holmgren told reporters he was reconsidering his decision to leave coaching, even though it won't be in Seattle, which has planned to replace Holmgren with Jim Mora Jr. Holmgren said he might decide not to retire. He'll make up his mind after taking some time off after the season concludes. Gee, that circumstance sounds vaguely familiar. On Sunday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen speculated that Holmgren could wind up coaching - get this - the Dallas Cowboys. "(Holmgren) conceded he was having second thoughts about stepping aside from coaching," Mortensen said on "Sunday NFL Countdown," ESPN's pregame show. "He said, like Brett Favre, the Seahawks' organization has moved on. Holmgren's commitment to his wife, Kathy, is that he would take some time off after the season. Will that be a couple of weeks instead of a year as planned? "What if Jerry Jones comes a calling? In fact, Seahawks sources agree that one destination for Holmgren that should not be ignored is Dallas, because he and Jones have developed a very close relationship over the years. The pairing would not be anywhere as odd as, say, Bill Parcells and Jones."

After reading Jimmy Johnson's article on him going to Miami and Parcells going to Dallas and how neither of those really worked out cause their heart wasnt in it, I sort of question whether Holmgren would have what it would take if he was up for it.

Jerry and Holmgren have been tight for years. He's a "name" coach, so it makes sense on that level. His WCO surely would be loved by Owens, and you know Romo would dig being coached by Favre's former boss.

But it just doesn't do it for me. His tenure in Seattle has been underwhelming, I'm not sure I want to install a completely different offense philosophically and Romo's such a great downfield thrower, I'm not sure I want to see him in the WCO.

Not to mention, the Dallas job isn't open .... yet. Wade still has time to solidify himself here. Just as 13-3 didn't matter last year, 9-5 doesn't matter right now. Let's see what happens if he can get us to the dance.

Wow I'm starting to get a warm feeling inside (he says as he wets his pants) :lmao2:

Edit:

Just immagine, Wade agrees to step down to become the D-Coordinator, Holmgren becomes the Head Coach, keeps Garrett as the O-Coordinator, and teaches him a thing or two about the WCO, and injects WCO wrincles into the offensive scheme.

Am I dreaming, because I also see a tornado coming. Toto, where are you? LOL

We just now started to become dominant in the 3-4 defense. I don't want to switch back and forth yet again.

True, and looking back, how successful was that experiment? We had some good and some not so good draft picks, and made the playoffs in 2 out of his 4 years here. We still haven't won a playoff game since 1996.
