APWe already passed along some of the highlights from NFL Network Mike Mayock’s marathon two hour conference call on Wednesday.

....
1. Mayock thought the draft is deepest at defensive tackle. He has 5-7 first rounders at that position. He says it’s very thin at defensive end, but very deep for interior offensive linemen. So if you need a big ugly on either side of the ball, this is your draft.

2. Expect Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill to go solidly in the first round. Mayock says Tannehill lacks some anticipation and throws into coverage, but he was ver intrigued by his skill set.

OGs, DTs, and CBs are all deep in this draft, all needs for us.
Pass rusher that can play 3-4 SOLB is slim pickings, may be the reason why Dallas wants to franchise Spencer.

I would love to go OL in the first and DL in the second. That's my hope, provided we address CB in free agency.

I'd go OL and CB...even if we sign both those positions in FA.

Grubbs and DeCastro
Carr and Minnifield...or someone like that would be optimal imo.

what do we do at OLB

I don't know if people understand the word deep when it comes to someone saying the OL and CB class is deep with talent this year.

That means that their are alot of players at that position with talent. Why not take draft that position in the 2nd round if there isn't that big of a seperation. 3-4 OLB is said to be a weak class after the first round. Then why not take a 3-4 OLB in the 1st since their is a larger seperation of talent after the 1st round. Then you can still get good OG and CB talent in the 2nd and 3rd.

There is just not an OLB that will be a big upgrade over Spencer . I think that is the reason that Spencer will be franchised . Taking an OLB in the second would make more sense . There is less risk and some of the prospects with late first or second round actually have better pass rushing ability . Curry , Perry or Mercilus are some that come to mind . This year's class doesn't have a great pass rusher at the position .

We bring back Spencer and hopefully get a steal in the third...maybe Vinny Curry from Marshall. Addressing the DT position will also help a guy like Spencer if we can get someone to push the pocket and not allow quarterbacks a place to escape.

Realistically, I don't think we are going to replace Spencer's production this draft and I think some of the guys that are being talked about as first rounders don't really have that type of skill...it's just because it's not a very good class. Same thing at safety with Mark Barron. Some have us taking him at #14, is he even in the first round in other years?

Agreed. Reluctantly.

....he's a guy who needs motivation: playing on a 1 year deal SHOULD motivate him; IF NOT; he'll just be gone once and for all. IF we decided to franchise him again in 2013 we could right? I know the Pats felt that way ab out Seymour: good, solid player when motivated: they wouldn't give him the big deal because they didn't trust him, so they franchised him twice as I recall.....what's the rule on franchising a guy multiple seasons?
