Broncos linebacker Jarvis Moss apparently has been spending some time with Brett Favre.

Because Moss is contemplating retirement.

The difference, however, is that Moss is only 24 years old.

According to FOX 31 in Denver, Moss has advised the team that he might call it quits.

FOX 31 also reports that Moss wasn't at practice on Saturday, and that G.M. Brian Xanders declined to comment on the situation.

Moss participated in two Friday practices, and he expressed optimism about the future.

"It's a brand new start for me," Moss said. "I'm going to continue to work hard, pray, and everything will take care of itself."

Moss reportedly is struggling to adapt to his role in the team's new 3-4 defense, which resulted in a shift from defensive end to outside linebacker.

Alex Marvex of FOX reported in April that the Broncos were shopping Moss for a seventh-round draft pick. He thereafter was buried on the depth chart during offseason workouts.

Our first thought regarding the situation was that, if Moss retires, he might owe back a chunk of the five-year, $15 million contract he signed as the 17th overall pick in the 2007 draft. But it's entirely possible that he didn't receive a signing bonus as part of his rookie deal, which would insulate him from having to refund any of the money he has received.

I want to say I'd offer a 7th rnder even if he is just a backup for us, he still has first round talent. But if he is struggling to play in a 3-4 why would we want him?

Just cause he is tuh...tuh...too...stoopid to figure out the 3-4, doesnt mean he should quit. He needs to sac up and go to school.....spend as much time in the film room and with his LB coaches as possible. I mean old man Ellis was able to convert to OLB, and he did a very good job. Moss is more athletic and younger than Ellis. All he needs to do is put in the practice and reps.

Of course, the current Idiotopia over in Mile High with the owner and head coach sure don't help matters.

call greg or even look at greg's stats after the switch, then STHU and work at it.

I wonder how much of his struggles are due to the mental aspect of returning from a severe injury.

No he doesn't have first round talent. The guy was way overrated coming out and I laughed my *** off when the Broncos traded up to get him.

Man, I can't even fathom his thinking. He's only 2 years into a career. Mind boggling to me.

I was gonna be nice, but screw it.

entire generation being raised with a delusional outlook on life of " I am good therefore you owe me"

Idiots who thing being good is enough to earn great, parents' who encourage it.

Heyward Bey makes Alexander Wright look sure handed. The sports radio in MD were absolutely brutal when it came to his ability to catch.

I know Javaris very well. My little brother went to high school with him and played ball with him for a year. He hung out at my house several times and I ran into him at several other functions. The kid was dumb as dirt, a druggie, and extremely arrogant. I don't know how much of that is still true, but he didnt seem to think he needed to change one single thing back then. I know for a fact he was doing some of those same things during his sophomore at Florida. Just not a very bright kid.

I'll agree with you on this one. I never understood the appeal. He's been an underachiever dating all the way back to college. He didn't even test out exceptionally well in the draft process or pass the eyeball test (punters have a more imposing physique). It was seemingly a case of power of suggestion, where it was just repeated over and over again that he was a 1st round caliber player, so it obviously must be so.

When a 20 year old Brandon Williams goes in the 4th round after a 13 sack seasong going man on man against Jason Smith, Phil Loadholdt, Michael Oher, Russel Okung and Adam Ulatoski, and Jarvis Moss goes in the Top 20 picks when he can't crack 8 sacks in college ... let's just say the scouting profession confuses me.

I always thought Moss was a little small for DE in the pros - even in a 4-3 scheme. I think OLB in a 3-4 is perfect for him. He is a much better athlete than Ellis was and he did OK after the move.

He has to work hard and give it a chance or his days are going to be numbered.

I am glad he isn't our headache.

BTW, just saying he is a First Round talent doesn't mean ****.....see Bobby Carpenter.

Another potential gem plucked by out scouting department.

Denver just choked when they traded up for Moss. They must have been watching ESPN's draft day coverage that morning.
