I still don't understand why people think Campbell is so bad.

PFT should have mentioned that Cutler had a cakewalk schedule compared to Campbell. At least that would make it look like they had an idea what they were talking about.

Campbell is not on Cutler's level but at the same time Campbell isn't some scrub QB who holds his team back.

Agreed. He's terribly inconsistent when throwing the ball downfield.
Both of you are right. He's not terrible, but there are plenty of things he needs to improve on. He has improved every year though, in every category except yards/attempt which is an abysmal 6.4. I think he has a chance to prove people wrong this year, and I'm hoping he does.

He also doesn't get enough credit for his running. He extended a lot of drives last year with his feet.

JC just isn't a franchise QB, the mental-makeup isn't there

too slow to grasp a playbook
too slow to release the ball
average skill-set

just average

Other than turnovers, YPA is - in my opinion - the most telling stat for a QB over the long haul.

But it is such marginal improvement that it is unacceptable. He was performing in his 4th year like the rookies were performing last year.

He still locks on to WRs. He still cannot see the pass until the WR is open, which is often too late. That's because he can't read a defense very well and see where the opening is going to be. He still has a slow release. He still has a slow set-up. And, most amazingly, he still has not figured out touch. Deep balls too flat. Short passes too high or too short or too much velocity. That he still has such basic problems is amazing.

These are things which, by any measure, should have been worked out before last year. But he still had it.

If QCampbell was going to be a great QB in this league, it would have shown by now. It has not. It's OBVIOUS that he will never be anything more than a middling starter or solid backup.

I agree. I'm hoping that his low YPA was due to poor protection. Anything more than a three step drop and he was getting clobbered. Of course you can argue that his completion % only went up because he was throwing the ball so short, so we really won't know what kind of QB he is unless the Commanders can upgrade the protection.

This article is a joke. They can pump JC up all they want but his skills aren't even close to Cutlers. It's apples to oranges....

That and it's one anonymous source that is reporting a rumor. Way to be professional and uphold standards there, Florio.

Am I in the Twilight Zone?

Who the HELL gave these QBs the impressions that they were untouchable?

Hey Cutler, hey Campbell... you're Jay Cutler and Jason Campbell.

Not Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

When you've accomplished something in this league, maybe then you'll have the right to be "pissed" that your team had the audacity to explore other QB options.

Until then, you've both accomplished next to NOTHING as NFL QBs. Your potential alone isn't an accomplishment, you whiny little b****es.

I didn't need one, but I just found another reason to love Tony Romo. Tony would NEVER pull crap like this if Jerry was intrigued by another available QB.

What crap did Jason Campbell pull? Working out with the team for voluntary workouts while this was going on because he owed it to his teammates? Saying that the last week wouldn't affect his decision to re-sign with Washington because he understands there's a business side to things? You're obviously feigning indignation when there's nothing to be indignant about.

I'll be honest here. I hadn't read the article before posting, I had only read the title.

The very stupid and misleading title, as I now know from having finally read the article.

Campbell has the right attitude, if the article is true. It's Cutler alone who is the whiny *****.

My apologies to Jason Campbell and his fans (that means you, Skinsmaniac). :D

What is he pissed for? Doesn't he know he's not very good, and that teams generally try to improve whenever they can?

I know I'm pissed, I was hoping Snyder would lock up Campbell for 7 years 120 Milliion.

Commanders' Campbell meets with Snyder
April 5, 2009 5:08 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder called quarterback Jason Campbell into his office Friday and they talked for two hours about the club's pursuit of Jay Cutler. I'm sure Broncos fans wonder what it's like to have a quarterback who takes the novel approach of actually taking an owner's phone call. Here's what Campbell told local reporters about the conversation:

"I expressed myself, Dan expressed himself and we just spoke honestly about the whole situation," Campbell said. "It was good to just talk about everything and for everybody to just say where they're coming from. For me, I just wanted to express what I'm trying to do as the quarterback of this team: trying to get better every day to help us reach that higher level we all want to reach.

"I understand what Dan was saying and I'm glad he kind of wanted to talk about everything that's been going on, because it has been kind of crazy the last couple of days. With us all being in the same room and just expressing everything, I would say it was a very successful meeting because everyone expressed themselves and made it clear what we want to try to accomplish."

Coach Jim Zorn and executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato also took part in the meeting. Zorn and Campbell have developed a close relationship and it appears they will emerge from this episode on the same page. I'm sure Campbell will have his head on a swivel, but that was probably going to be the case anyway since he's heading into the final year of his contract.

In other news, the Commanders brought in Byron Leftwich for a workout Friday. Seems like a curious move with the current climate at Commanders Park, but what the heck. Much more to come on this topic.

Curious reaction by Campbell. He should have done cartwheels and celebrated. Isn't that what every player does who is placed in a position to lose their job?
