The Cowboys unveiled “The Derek Jeter Challenge” this week not just as an exercise in team building. yes, compete at everything so that the guys that don't "win" that competition will still be better than other team's players (see: TSmith vs Taco)

Jeez, JG, I sure hope the networks don't decide to televise the team playing "checkers or chess" -- seems really boring! :muttley:

It's interesting how Garrett uses the principles that he believes in to create events for his team to develop them. It's not unusual for coaches to do team building or competition exercises but it is good to see him put an emphasis on it early and often.

Between the player selection and cultivation using exercises like these, Garrett does a good job developing the esprit de corps. This probably has as much if not more to do for the successful execution on 4th and 2 on nay given Sunday than what the playcall is at that point in time.

I know we have "attaboys" or whatever, but a good way to drive this in camp is just stupid awards. People love recognition and bragging rights, especially competitive guys, no matter how stupid it is.

You can do them by position group, on a weekly basis or something. "Best route runner", "best snap anticipator", "best use of hands at DE", etc.
