He negotiated with Denver, Dallas matched. He thought he could get more money out of Dallas. When Jerry said no, he left for Denver … where he likely wanted to be all along

Gregory and his agent actually read his contract this time around and wanted the language removed. Jerry said no and so Gregory left town.

I’m actually very glad that the team DID walk away from this deal.

Based on what we know with the sequence of events I have no reason to doubt Jerry on this one. Sounds like they wanted Gregory back, but he needed to come back on Jerry's terms.

I have no issue with that, and think that was the smart move.

Sounds completely feasible. Are you saying that they never game Jerry a chance to remove the language? That makes little sense. Its more likely they asked him to remove it and he wouldnt do it. Why else would Gregory and his party be so offended?
