He needs to retire. He already has one foot out the door applying for after football jobs which means he gave his agent permission to do so.

Yep. What would your boss do if you were interviewing for other jobs? Or would then say, Fuzzy has been loyal for 15 years, let's allow him to. Smh

JJ saying he will keep their conversation "private forever" reveals all I need to know. Witt is gone.

This might even have been timed by the Cowboys to get some extra attention while the draft is going on. Really. I mean, Witten obviously knew, he just as obviously wouldn't intend to retire and not tell the team prior to the draft, so the team knew. ESPN could have leaked the news earlier, but instead teased it with the stories that Favre wasn't any good and Peyton didn't want it...then it suddenly breaks after round 1 of the draft and generates a ton of extra free coverage for America's Team, but only after we're clear of the first round so the draft itself isn't upstaged.

It also has the benefit of not having been announced on top of Dez' news, so we got two separate sports news cycles covered.

Typical dallas fashion ... this drags for a few days then he just retires

So supposedly Jones leaks to Mortenson only to say that now he is going to take a few days too think about it.

What in the world!

Middle of the draft is when you start this retirement crap? Season was basically over late Decemember, so four months to decide without football in the way, and nothing until now?

Seriously.

It's like nobody in Dallas realizes that there's an NFL calendar.
:banghead:

Football is a bit different than most people's employment situation though. There are a lot of people that can code or turn a wrench. Not so many that can play football at Witten's level.

That is immaterial though. Football requires mental toughness and determination that is above and beyond any other sport. If Witten has one eye on the broadcast booth he is not going to have it at his age.

I wish him well. He was a great player but it is time to move on whether we need him or not.

ESPN and ABC are the same company. Likely they are pressuring Witten into a decision. We should have put more stock into the report last month.

I'm sure it is multifaceted given all the different players even within the organizations involved but this seems to me to also be a means to pressure Witten into a decision. I imagine he has struggled with this one quite a bit. It is a momentous decision.

I think he HAS already made a decision and I think Jerry Knows it.

I think this is Jerry keeping the Draft as the focus and answer on later doing a PC or Something for Witten's retirement after the draft is over. I think it is a lame attempt to fake teams out and try to keep them from jumping in front us any time a decent TE IA about to fall to our pick.

Just my opinion.

That might have been Jerry's worst lie ever told....

He's gone.

Nice smokescreen Jerry...:lmao2: Now...can someone make Jerry a drink?

Well he tried. We will have to target a TE now. Not sure if the ET Will work out.
