Jerry Jones wants “fair shake” for Ezekiel Elliott

...

“What is important is he gets a fair shake,” Jones said regarding Elliott’s disciplinary process, via Judy Battista of NFL Media. “Zeke has in no way, by any standard in this country, done anything wrong. He’s done nothing wrong. We, the league, have tried to say he’s done something we disagree with. We all don’t agree with that. I want him to get a fair shot. He deserves that.”

Elliott wasn’t arrested for or charged with domestic violence. However, the league decided that “credible evidence” exists to believe that a violation of the Personal Conduct Policy occurred.

“We don’t have the system in place for this and we’re trying to make one up in a few short months and it’s got too many ways to not be fair to a person like Zeke,” Jones said. “I know this: We have a pretty good system in place in this country. It’s called the legal system and it has a lot of precedent. It’s made a lot of mistakes, but it’s the best one probably in the world, in my view. For us to not recognize that, that’s a concern. First thing we did when we came to this country, our forefathers, we’re not going to let somebody sit over here and be accused. They’re going to get quick-and-immediate accounting and justice. Zeke hasn’t gotten that.”

Wow, what an incredibly stupid thing to say.

"Zeke has in no way, by any standard in this country, done anything wrong." Are you serious? So, nobody has a standard that says it's not ok to openly do drugs in college? Nobody has a standard that says it's not ok to pull a girl's top down in public? And you don't know a thing because you weren't there.

I understand the legal battle of the injunction and case in general, but c'mon, Jerry. Understand the limitations of your influence and actual knowledge of this case.

All those strippers and whiskey binges have sullied your brain.
You're killing my buzz dude.. stop it.

I totally agree with Jerry that the league is going beyond its system by convicting Elliott in its own court. It's a big leap from suspending players because they've been convicted in a court of law to becoming judge, jury and executioner. Goodell has taken the league's personal conduct power too far, and it needs to be made clear that the league doesn't have the power to convict.

The league was walking the line with Greg Hardy. It suspended him despite the case against him being dismissed. However, at least he had been initially convicted before appealing. That conviction gave the NFL the right to use its personal conduct policy. It crossed that line with Elliott and hopefully the courts will see that an employer doesn't need to hold the power to convict an employee of a crime.

exactly, the system of punishment by the NFL was not meant to decide cases on its own without looking to the legal system

That reads like a shot at Goodell almost, doesn't it?

Sure does, and Florio takes it a step further at the end... Loved it

Doesn't mean he's done nothing wrong "by any standard", and not found guilty doesn't mean he did nothing wrong.

Jerry is the LAST person who should speak on personal behavior standards.

Who the hell are u to judge someone else? Jerry does more for mankind in one day than you can ever dream of coming close to in your entire little lifetime.

Jerry has always stood by his players, sometimes even to the detriment of the team. In this case, however, it's tremendously to the Cowboys' advantage to do all they can to protect his career with the utmost of care. Zeke's contributions to this team's success is unquestionable.

Jerry wants what many fans want. To ignore the Personal Conduct Policy and let the Justice system determine these DV issues.

I’d suggest Jerry get more involved in the negotiations with the collective bargaining agreements between the NFL owners and the NFLPA which empowered the commissioners office to take action not relying on the Justice system with a guilty plea or conviction.

Jerry was also outspoken on the marijuana ban in the NFL. Jerry basically wants his players available to play unless they’re incarcerated which probably is aligned with many fans opinions.

Apparently Jerry believes the shield won’t be damaged from a wide spread pot culture and criminal activity if the league decided it wasn’t necessary to protect the leagues shield on the DV and social sensitive issues but he’s willling to bench players for other lawful actions?

This comes down to a centric fan issue because one of our star players is at risk which can hurt our teams chances of winning football games. I certainly don’t recall Jerry speaking out on the actions taken against other players around the league.

No problems at all with Jerry’s view. As a matter of fact, I love it!

JJ coming out with a well thought out response that isolates the arbitrary one sided view granted to Goodell by the collective bargaining agreement....

You can't have it both ways: say it's a matter of personal conduct due to DV, the process was fair, and then ignore what the justice system says about the charges with respect to DV as well as your chief arbitrator. This is what is called talking out of both sides of your mouth.

None of the other stuff you mentioned is immediately relevant. The above is the crux of the issue.
