Dallas was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with Saturday night’s loss to the Jets, and Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones hopes to use that pick wisely. Jones said after the game that the Cowboys will play their last two games and then turn their attention to the one bright side of their bad…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2369582&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

Jerry stating he has to use the pick wisely probably means he's going to trade down, two or three spares are better than one...

First we can cut out all the bull about being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention
Dallas even if they won out, still has no chance in hell at making it in with all the other teams
that were ahead of them

now to the topic of hand..it's ironic Jones says we'll have a high pick and we must take
advantage of it. but, this is the same Jones who in 98 took Ellis over Moss, then in 2001
took Quincy Carter as his QB so I don't for one second trust Jerruh to make the right
choice by drafting a Paxton Lynch or some other QB for the future my guess is he'll
draft another tight end and we'll just end up right back to where we were next season
thanks to the owner's determination of arrogance, denial and stupidity

Hardy isn't even guaranteed for next season... What assets are he talking about?

I'm just glad that Jerry will continue his brilliant on-the-job training program for his adopted son Jason Garrett..

When's he going to include him in the will?

What the hell was that downfield PI analogy about? Was he drunk?

I think that's his way of saying the OC is gone and a big arm QB is on the way. I'm fine with both

Jerry Jones believes that drafting QB's is such a risky proposition that he won't do it. Better to draft another CB.

I don't know that getting an advantage in talent line and the throwing down field analogy added with the right player in the right cap slot can translate in Jerry talk that we are in a position to take a QB in the first round that is capable throwing down field and he wouldn't be that expensive. Naw. Probably just me being hopeful.

He says they have an advantage with the high pick "to couple with a roster of really outstanding relatively young players".

You know, all those types that are littered all over this roster.

Wow. 1998 Greg Ellis still has your goat huh? It will only 18 years since that draft and you are still using that reference? I'm surprised you didn't mention passing in Joe Montana 35 years ago...

The NFL draft is a gamble no matter what position you are drafting. You can draft only guys that most scouts and fans agree is a can't miss player and then you can easily miss while someone not even drafted that same year ends up have a multiple pro bowl career.

What's it going to be then, eh?

It is. Earmark the top CB now.
