Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead has one of the best names in the NFL anyway, and if he hadn’t lived up to it last weekend, he might have been called Limpy Whitehead, or worse.
According to Charean Williams of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram, Whitehead was advertised to be at a party at the same Dallas nightclub where Aqib Talib was one of three men shot. But Whitehead never showed up, seeing the police cars reporting to the scene as he drove home.
“What’s going on over there?” Whitehead said he wondered. “But I got a call later on to make sure I wasn’t there, because someone had heard about what had happened. It’s unfortunate. It just seems like the wrong place at the wrong time, and I’m glad I wasn’t there.”
Whitehead doesn’t know Talib, but he does know the DJ at the club, and thinks that’s how he ended up on a promotional flier advertising his birthday party. But Whitehead said he didn’t know about any advertising.
“It was just like an afterparty for me; I kind of know the DJ,” Whitehead said. “That’s why I knew about the party. But I never agreed to having a flier put out. That’s why I was never on any of my social media. I never promoted it myself.
“It was an unfortunate accident. I’m glad I wasn’t there.”
Or, maybe just Lucky.
