MANNINGHAM FALLING TO DAY TWO?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 23, 2008, 10:42 p.m.

The free-fall of Michigan receiver Mario Manningham, whose slow 40 times and slow-witted handling of tough questions regarding marijuana use have caused him to fall out of the first round, might also fall out of the second round, too.

There’s a school of thought that Manningham won’t hear his name called at all on the first day of the draft, which means he’ll be drafted in round three at the earliest.

With plenty of other guys who haven’t failed drug tests in college and haven’t lied about it under circumstances where a reasonable person should have known that the lie would be exposed, burning a pick on Manningham with other viable candidates on the board represents a major risk.

I think we will take him in the 2nd round.

Mendenhall with the 22nd

And unless we trade I think we still go corner with the 28th

Somebody (not sure about us) will likely take him before round two is over and consider themselves lucky they were able to get him at such a bargain rate.

It's hard to know just what will happen with him this weekend. On tape, he's a pretty good receiver with good speed, hands and football sense. On the other hand, I listened to his interview on Sirius and it was a train wreck. He seemed confused, intimidated and upset by the questions and the interviewers made a point of ridiculing him for quite a considerable period of time after the interview. This guy needs somebody ( his agent, perhaps?) to help prepare him for this next stage of his football career. If he drops to day two, he has the potential to be a steal or to crash and burn in a big-time way.

Too many other guys with roughly the same talent is what is doing him in. Character and dealing with interviews does make a difference. Esp with the money rookies are making. No one wants to guarantee him a lot of money. But someone will step up. IMO.

I'm hardly a fan of his on and off the field but if he is still sitting there in the 3rd and we have yet to address the WR position it would be something Dallas would have to consider.
