Dan Leberfeld of Scout.com (the guy who first reported Spygate but then got little or no credit for it) reports that Jags assistant head coach Mike Tice will interview with the Miami Dolphins on Monday for the still-vacant head-coaching position.
Because Leberfeld primarily covers the Jets, we’ve got a feeling that he got the info from Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum, who is close with Bill Parcells (and Tannenbaum will tell you so whenever he’s about to face criticism for his own body of work).
Folks close to Tice reportedly are convinced that the Meathead is getting the job. However, all signs have been pointing to Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano.
But maybe, just maybe, we’re in for a little Tuna Surprise. After all, Sparano has only limited head-coaching experience, at the University of New Haven. He has been in the NFL since 1999; Tice (who’s not yet even 50) has more than 25 years as an NFL player and coach.
We’re actually rooting for Tice on this one. We give him a hard time, but he’s the kind of character that the NFL needs. Hey, what good movie or TV show doesn’t have a big dopey guy to provide periodic comic relief?
