RETURN OF THE MEATHEAD?
Posted by Mike Florio on January 12, 2008, 12:58 p.m.

There’s an item in the St. Paul Pioneer Press that nearly made me cough up a pancreas. (Fortunately, the human body was two.)

Here’s the quote, from an article that meanders into several different sports topics: “People close to former Vikings coach Mike Tice insist he will be named the Dolphins’ head coach next week if Jacksonville, for which Tice is a top assistant, loses at New England on Saturday.”

We always thought the guy was a meathead. Maybe he’s just delusional.

First of all, Tice has no coaching or playing experience with Fins football poobah Bill Parcells. Second, Tice presided over the Love Boat fiasco in Minnesota. Third, Tice was fined $100,000 for scalping Super Bowl tickets.

Parcells has said that he doesn’t want “thugs and hoodlums.” We assume that this sentiment doesn’t apply only to the players.
Besides, Tice apparently hasn’t even interviewed for the job. (An interview could have occurred this past week; if it did, no one blabbed to the press about it . . . . like they blabbed about Tice thinking that the job is his.)

But maybe Tice is right. Chris Mortensen called the former NFL tight end a “dark horse” for the job last week, to which Tice might have responded, “I’m white. . . . And I’m not a horse.”

Hey, we kind of hope he gets the job. This job hasn’t been the same without him as a head coach.

Asi I believe Chief has pointed out, Parcells does really like Tice... I remember him saying something about being sort of a mentor to him when he got the Minny job.

When i saw the list of perspective coaches in Miami and Tice was in it i just laughed. I don't believe for a minute Tuna will hire this bonehead. If he does, then Parcells has lost it ala Gibbs.

I like Tice. He is old school and that is what he brings to the Tuna

Sparano is already hired, they just haven't announced it.

I wouldn't put it past Parcells to hire Tice in another capacity however.

Only way tice gets hired is if Parcells wants to coach...just not officially. ;)

Considering none of the papers down here have anything reported on
Tice and the Boys are in playoffs, the fact nobody else has been hired or
even mentioned as a favorite, Sparano is more than likely the guy.

I could see tice as a O line coach or something- but no way does Tuna bring him in to run it all after his SPECTACULAR failure in Minnesota.

So do I. The "Loveboat" incident had nothing to do with Tice. He was at home at the time.

I have no problem with Tice.
