It's a year long game anyway. They could add more games at the end. Is it colder in GB at the end of Dec or Jan? Or the same?

I'd predict more domed stadiums esp up north. More players on the active roster, overall roster and PS. More rules to cut down on injuries if possible. Byes after games out of country. It's doable.

And on the front end a reduced preseason would cause camps to open later, giving baseball even more time as the dominant pro sport.

16 games over 17 weeks is plenty of regular season.

What is the NFL trying to do - shorten careers? The talent is thin enough as it is.

While I have been a long proponent of shortening preseason, I'm 100% against expanding the regular season. At this level, football is the most violently played sport in the world as far as the human body is concerned. Upping the number of games will only increase the opportunity for injuries. Why would you want to potentially damage the foundation (e.g. the players) of your sport year-after-year for the sake of a few more games? Greed should have its limits too.

um...NO...that is way too long. As a Cowboy fan, having watched the last 5 seasons, I say shorten the season a game or two.

they might then need to expand rosters, 55 might do it

They talked to Jerry about this subject a while back but i don't remember if it was on the radio, newspaper, ESPN or where. They asked him about expansion and he said a team in LA would likely come from a team that already exists. Then he went on to say they are not going to expand the playoff teams. Then he talked about expanding the reg. season and that it was likely but expanding the rosters by at least 2 spots would be talked about. Just what i remember him saying, for what that's worth.

i like the 18 game season idea.....but start the season on Labor Day weekend. also, increase the roster size from 53 to 60.

Have all training camps start on July 28. Practice for two weeks. Every team (except 4) plays their 1st preseason game during the 2nd Friday in August. Two teams play in the HOF game on Sunday. Two teams that played in the previous SB play on MNF.

Then teams play their 2nd and final preseason game during the third weekend of August.

On the Wednesday (by 11:59 pm per time zone) following the final preseason game, all rosters must be trimmed to 60, PUP lists finalized, and the 5 player practice squad roster all submitted to the league for approval.

Cowboys Schedule (example)

NFC East: 6 games
NFC North: 4 games
NFC South: 2 games (1st and 4th place team from previous year)
NFC West: 2 games (1st and 4th place team from previous year)
AFC: 4 games (AFC Central)

why 1st and 4th.....cause Dallas won their Division so they get the 1st place team in those other two divisions, but they also get the 4th place team.....If Dallas had finished 2nd, they would get the 2nd and 3rd place teams from each division.

If anything go back to the 2 bye weeks. No one can argue with 2 extra weeks of football. I think I would be ok with 17 but not 18, but I dont want them to start the season in late Aug either. I rather see snow games than summer games. Plus, it would be safer for players to play in cooler temps. If the Superbowl is in mid Feb, who cares.

Preseason games are almost not watchable. Game plans are plain vanilla, starters could care less about playing in a meaningless game, and when the backups and scrubs play the quality of the product is in the cellar.

I would vote to do away with the preseason and have 20 reg season games, now that would kick arse!!!

The whole point of pre season games is so you can see the so called scrubs. Guys trying to make the roster is very exciting to me. I don't know about you but some kid doing whatever it takes to make the team is the whole spirit of watching football. Its about the team and game, The best part of the pre season games are the second half. Its all about $$$$$$ they don't give a ratz a** about players or the game GREED commercials and more time for Espn to report crap on us.

I only have one problem with expanding the number of games. The effect it has on season records. 16 games is symmetrical and it makes sense. All adding games does is cheapen records and line already rich pockets.

As much as Id love to see a longer season, a players health is more important IMO. Now if they upped the player limit, then Id be for it. Say maybe 60 on roster with maybe 50-52 active on gameday.
