NFL: Pending further court action, Ezekiel Elliott is suspended for Week Nine

The snip-snap, snip-snap Ezekiel Elliott litigation currently gives the league the ability to suspend the Cowboys running back, and it will.

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said on a Tuesday media briefing that Elliott is suspended as of Week Nine, given the ruling from Monday night denying the motion to convert the pending temporary restraining order into a preliminary injunction.

“We’re pleased with the ruling,” Lockhart said. “As we said in advance of our argument, we thought we had a very strong argument.”

Well... The Silver lining is that we may get rid of Goodell.

My only problem with Jerry and the rest of the owners is that I wish they would step up and defend every teams player that is getting injustice from the guy they hired. Don't wait until it happens to your team.

Goodell also lost the NFL owners and front office a lot of power because I doubt the players play under these rules with a commissioner that will abuse them.

I agree with you but in fairness that's how most people are. Most don't think about the stuff they are championing for one minute that might bite them until it actually bites them then it is this is soooo unfair.

Owners realize that if Goodell remains the commissioner then NFLPA will recommend a lock out. NFLPA hates Goodell. $$ talks. Owners don't want a lock out and that will be Goodell's downfall.

Right, are the nice guys of the league going to want to strike or lose money, etc. in the contract to protect the bad boys? Most probably think they will never have to deal with this. "If you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to fear, etc. etc."

And this case is why that is failed logic which is why they won't allow Goodell to have this much power anymore.

Exactly but I'm a believer after a certain point money means nothing. I know most will disagree but I rather make sure I can't get screwed over even if its slim than have some meaningless money. They can't get you just for DV as Brady showed you and players might want to think about that. I'm sure most aren't going into commit DV but I still don't want some anybody esp a person with a track record for making emotional moves having that much power that can potentially mess me up.

in defense of not standing up for Brady and the Patriots.....

That was not the first time they cheated - I don't think anybody really ever gave them the benefit of the doubt there.

I would be really surprised to see Goodell replaced, personally.

If the win holds, all Goodell has done is prove he will enforce the CBA, which is good in the eyes of the league.

I wouldn't.

Ratings and revenue are down. The league is constantly in a bad light over things that could be avoided and on top of all that he just pissed off the most powerful owner in football.

I'm not going to get into an NFL ratings argument.

Suffice to say, ratings are down across the board and even the mighty NFL isn't exempt.

In other words, when it happens to another team, you don't really care - much like how there are fans of 31 NFL teams right now who don't care about Elliott.

Jerry needs to be careful about overplaying his hand. First of all, just last year he was talking about how the commissioner was doing a good job with regards to Brady. Second of all, I read a report that he ruffled some feathers when he called himself the "ranking owner" when he was in a group of them. There is no such thing as a "ranking owner".

Knowing our luck, jerry will try to out goodell and goodell will still get his new contract. Then the nfl will be even further against the team. I actually think that is what is going to happen.

Maybe I'm a dummy, and I probably am, but if Jerry was truly pissed and stood behind Zeke, then what if Jerry and the team show up on Sunday, and simply don't play the game?

Boycott it.

It would cripple the NFL financially.

No in other words, if you have been proved of cheating before, I don't take any interest in your plight.

Empathy always depends on your closeness with the situation in any case.
