APAfter Rich Cimini officially launched an Asomugha vigil on Thursday night, I stayed up as late as possible, wary of the fact that Friday likely will be the craziest day in league history.

The decision of the Texans to sign cornerback Johnathan Joseph triggered a flurry of speculation that Nnamdi was headed for New York, and so it was time to wait for the green-and-white smoke to come from the chimney.

Rosenthal and I agreed to pull the plug on Nnamdi watch at 2:00 a.m., and so I hit the hay with the ringer on the official PFT cell phone set to high...

Quick bottom line: 'The Niners are in the hunt, the Cowboys could be, and there’s still a chance he’ll decide to stay with the Raiders.'

As contract renegotiations are on hold at present...

The money he was expecting is not out there and the Jets will not pay him more than Revis. I think thats about where it stands. It gives teams who were not interested in him at the $14-18 million range to maybe come back into it because it looks like he's going to be in the $10-12 range now. To him and his agent, thats going to feel like they lost alot of money so its going to be tough to go to NY where cost of living and taxes are going to siphon of another 25-30%. I'm not saying he won't end up a Jet, but the door is wide open to go get him cheaper than was originally thought.

Come to Dallas and there is no income tax I hear. That will save him a few million in itself.

If he ends up signing for somewhere between $12-15 million, I'm gonna sending more than few people "I told you so" messages.

Some folks were claiming he was gonna want/get $20 million per.

He's going to be playing for the Jets -- contender with best chance to win the AFC, New York City, etc.

And $12-$15M a year warranting "told you so" messages? Get real. The only way I'm paying $12-$15M/year is for a QB or DeMarcus Ware. Nnamdi got chewed up and spit out by Miles Austin when the Raiders played us a few years back. Now you want him to cover Miles AND Dez? HAH.

And good morning, Sir! It shall be done!

Straight up question, does the Dallas defense own up to at least carry a semblance of balance to contend for a NFC East crown, as it stands....right now?

I don't think so. Unless we went into the season with a bunch of unknowns that become the next Romo/Austin at their positions, we need some serious help along the defensive line and we need 2 safeties with Sensabaugh being a free agent.

I'm going to be honest...I think our best combinations would be some combination of Huff and Sensabaugh/Elam. I also wouldn't rule out Quinton Mikell...unless the Eagles have signed him back already. I think a player like Huff, a true Free Safety, is absolutely required for us to be successful. The last guy we had that played like a real free safety was Ken Hamlin, and while not amazing by any means, he didn't let guys get deep. Your signature pic says alone what Hamlin was able to instill in opposing receivers...people seem to forget that simply because he wasn't Ed-Reeding it out there picking off 12 passes a season...which also wasn't what the Wade Phillips offense called for.

EDIT: Quintin Mikell agreed to terms with the St. Louis Rams. So he's out. Great pickup for the Rams they're going to be very happy.

Common wisdom is that Nmadi will not sign for less than he made with the Raiders. Hence the $15 million floor. I think the Jets Lowballed him deliberately; hoping that his interest in NY and the theater would make him accept. That does not look like it will happen. Still believe he will not sign for less than $15 million a season. Considering that lesser talents have already signed for at least $10 million a season in other positions, it would be moronic to think that even $12 million will get him.

The sources claiming $18-20 million were reasonable sources (not bleacher report or some blog). I think $16 million or a little more is still probable.

The 49rs with memories of Deion might be the ones.

Are you high? Austin caught ONE ball vs Nnamdi in man coverage for 40 yards. Hardly would call that chewed up.

To the point, the Captain does NOT exagerate on terrain progressions during battles.:)

It would be kinda funny if he comes out and says I'm staying with the raiders

For a cornerback that plays inside technique in man coverage almost exclusively, getting beat on a post pattern is what I would call getting chewed up and spit out.

Haha ok man.

I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell for the Cowboys to sign Asomugha.

Although from outside pressure - inward, the defense should perk up with the execution of a Rob Ryan defense, I'm on the boat with you here, Sir. Unless right up the gut, on running plays and passing plays is shored up and improved, the team will always be struggling to keep head above water. That is even with a top producing offense.

One has to merely look at opening day in the new stadium against the Giants, to see the Wade Phillips's type of 'Honey do' lists, with a very strong defensive lineup, couldn't hold form and put Romo and the offense at advantages from which to work and pass.

Bill Parcells kept more of a daily objectivity to the need to excell TODAY in his referenced principals. That is needed right now as well. While balancing books is very crucial on a National perspective now, the on the field product can NOT suffer if one wishes to succeed. Not just be a top and lucrative business enterprise.

Well, Jerry has salvaged the mortage on his palace and the team, I'll grant him that.

But the secondary and defensive line HAS to gain advantage right here and now. Otherwise, it's third place in the NFC East from the whistle starting the season...:)

Take it from a fair collegiate linebacker who had his jock dropped on the carpet by a Pro Bowl future level receiver. He isn't lying on skillset involved, and even at the top levels of lengendry involved in your association.
