Getty ImagesAs Albert Breer of NFL Network reported last night, Commissioner Roger Goodell and “some of the owners” would be present for court-ordered mediation commencing on Thursday.

“Some” turned out to be four. Out of 32.According to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello’s Twitter page, the four owners in attendance are Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, and Steelers owner Art Rooney.

Not even sure why this is news as you do not want all 32 owners there just like you don't want 1,800+ players there. Each side needs their representatives at the table to reduce confusion and to keep the negotiations focused.

How many owners are needed to tell a judicially assigned mediator what their case is? I do hope Jerry Richardson asks the Judge if he needs help reading the profit and loss statements though.

In fact I definitely do not send one of the richest owners and teams out there. That's sabotaging their own case.

By Forbes' estimates of 2009 season operating income: Patriots $67 million, Chiefs $48 million, Steelers $18 million, and Panther $15 million. My take, one top end team is there, a middle ,and 2 bottom teams are present in terms of profits. So, at least each segment is covered, and those like Carolina are double covered.

Not sure who was expected, but as long as the owners are part of the NFL's labor committee, I think it's ok.

As percentages go, the plaintiffs in the Brady antritrust lawsuit are slightly better represented than the defendants.

The lawsuit has 10 named plaintiffs, including Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees. Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that only two of the named plaintiffs — Ben Leber and Mike Vrabel — are present for the mediation. (Yes, we believe they all should be there.) The action has 33 defendants, the league and the 32 teams. And the defendants are represented by Commissioner Roger Goodell and four owners.

That’s 20 percent of the plaintiffs and 15 percent of the defendants. Of course, as long as someone from each side has the ability to negotiate an agreement, it doesn’t really matter how many or few are present.
