There are about to be more bodies available for those all-important fourth preseason games.

According to Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com, owners have just voted to abolish the roster cuts to 75.

Those cuts, a step between the 90-man offseason roster and the 53-man regular season roster, came between the third and fourth exhibition games.

That rules never made sense. Teams were not going to play starters in game 4 with or without the cut to 75.

That would be awesome but would likely require approval from the players union.

Even just bumping it to 55 players would be a big improvement.
I don't see how the union would balk at an increase in their membership.

All players on the roster should be allowed to play on Sunday's. I don't see the point of having 45 active players and 8 inactive players on game days.

I assume they wouldn't agree to it without a commensurate increase in the salary cap.

The rationale for the inactive list is to blunt the effect of injuries and try to give more competitive balance. If one team has everyone healthy and the other team has 5 guys injured, they can each dress 45 healthy guys, versus one team just having more bodies available on game day. I don't have a strong opinion on it one way or the other, but that's the reasoning.

Next up: Replace 53-man regular season roster with 60-man squad (fingers crossed).

Never going to happen unless the players give up some money in their slice of the NFL money pie. So won't happen.

Cut down day is going to be like a pre season signing frenzy with all those folks looking to be added to practice squads as free agents. McClay and crew does their homework, you may get some diamonds.
