Despite rumors and reports linking former Pats assistant Dom Capers to the Giants as a potential replacement for former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Capers will be joining the Packers in that same role.

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the two sides have reached an agreement.

Capers replaced Bob Sanders, who was fired 13 days ago.

Other candidates for the job ended up taking defensive coordinator positions elsewhere, including Mike Nolan (Denver) and Gregg Williams (New Orleans).

With a lame duck HC, an owner on the fast train to Al Davis territory, and a lockerroom in shambles, a guy like Capers who can always get a DC job would never come to Dallas.

Anyone who ever believed Capers was coming here with just one year left on Phillips' contract was fooling themselves. No real assistants are coming here with Phillips/Garrett still on the staff. I expect D-coordinator to be fillede either from within or by some desperate no-name coach looking for a pay raise.

The only way we would have gotten Capers is if Garrett is truely the next HC and that would make Wade a lame duck with even less power. If that's the case just make Garrett the HC.
