Is Jerry doing anything to make the job attractive to Payton? Your OC and DC are going to be forced on you. You are going to be told who plays and who doesn't. You will have no say whatsoever in the draft or free agency, and no say in who signs, who gets released, etc. You will basically have no control of anything. Hell, what's not to like??

I would do it just to get paid, but I don't see Payton being that kind of person. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

A lot can happen in a year but I'm sure this next coaching cycle will have many openings. In an early peek, I've only counted 3-4 and yes that includes MM.

I believe he is under contract with the Saints through the 2024 season, I doubt the Saints will take just cash compensation and will want multiple high picks for his rights. Even if Payton is the guy and he wants to coach in 2023 just don't see the Boys giving up picks and taking the next step as he would be hampered if we had to give up multiple high picks and I don't think the Saints will budge on that as some team will probably do it if we don't.

If Jerry wants Payton, he can get him no problem. Gonna have to spend the big bucks, but that should be no problem for a guy that claims to want to win more than anything.

Money certainly won't be the issue. It will be about giving up control over personnel. Not sure Jerry can ever agree to that one.

If Jerry truly is interested in winning like he claims he will do it. But I don't think he's interested in giving up any control at all, not for a super bowl or anything. Worse case scenario for him is Payton or some other big name coming in and having instant success. I think he would rather go to his grave than have to listen to the media berate him for wasting everyone's time for the past 30 years.

I'm sure a perfect world for Jerry is hiring Payton AND keeping Quinn at least another year or two. What's interesting is finding and/or keeping good DCs has one of Payton's weaknesses. What's even more interesting was Jerry tacking on a couple more years to Quinn's contract. You see where I'm going with this (lol).

In fact, other Matt Rhule, I'm not there another head coach on a hotter seat than MM.

If I'm Payton I'm taking the Chargers job if open over anything else.

I am sure IF Payton does decide to return, the QB on the team will be one of the reasons he would take the job.. along with money and control So LAC would be a great temptation for him. They would want a coach who can groom Herbert, not the defensive minded coach they currently have.

Yeah, that TO signing was just what Parcells wanted.

TO probably wasn't Parcells choice, but look at all the former players he coached that were brought in. He also got to make draft picks.

Naming a few:

Vinny Testaverde
Drew Bledsoe
Richie Anderson
Terry Glenn
Keyshawn Johnson
Jason Ferguson
Aaron Glen
Dedric Ward

Jones was comfortable giving up quite a bit of control so Parcells could get his guys. However, I think Jones eventually grew less patient which is why TO eventually came into the picture his final year. Besides Jimmy, Parcells was the coach with the most influence/control. I think for the right coach that could happen again.

He would have to do what he said he won’t do. Give him the team and let him pick his staff. Sure he will work with others on draft picks but the staff should belong to the HC. Drafting is your HC and scouts and GM and in our case the owner. He had been doing better about listening to our make shift GM that has the job but not the title..
