Posted by Mike Florio on September 4, 2008, 4:25 p.m.

Giants receiver Plaxico Burress wanted a new contract before the regular-season began.

And he got one.

Per a league source, Burress has signed a five-year, $35 million deal. He’ll make $11 million in 2008.

More details to come.

Plax talked major $*** about the Cowboy's secondary in his book. Now it's time for him to perform against that "not too good" unit.

In case you missed last season, Plax got the last laugh.

We're the guys with something to prove, not them.

he deserved the money he got. he's a big play receiver that goes up and got the ball when it's in the air.

Plax said Newman is a good player and Hamlin is cool but outside of that the Cowboys secondary is nothing. And he said the Cowboys dont talk that much trash because they dont want to get him riled up.

well, maybe we both have something to prove. Like NY needs to prove they can carry over from last year, start winning at home, prove trading Jeremy Shockey was a smart move, and prove Eli is who they hope he is.

The Cowboys do indeed have much to prove. Winning a playoff game would be a nice start. Ah the joys of a fresh season.

BURRESS DEAL REQUIRES OFFSEASON PARTICIPATION
Posted by Mike Florio on September 4, 2008, 5:30 p.m.

The new five-year contract signed by Giants receiver Plaxico Burress is, technically, a two-year extension to his existing deal, and not a five-year extension to the three years remaining on his original six-year package. It also includes a term that will dramatically change Plaxico’s offseason routine.

We’re told that the deal requires Burress to attend all offseason workouts, even the voluntary ones. That’s a significant concession by the receiver given that he typically stays away from all non-mandatory offseason activities.

Burress was due to earn base salaries of $3.25 million, $3.5 million, and $3.75 million over the next three seasons. Thus, the new money on the $35 million package is more like $24.5 million.

It’s still a lot of money, and it was the right thing to do given that he played most of the 2007 season with a torn ligament in his ankle, and the Super Bowl with a sprained MCL
