PFT Power Rankings

The packers took on a great d so thats understandable. But the eagles??? They were facimg the browns and still almost lost

And one of them was the team we beat on their own field. And the Eagles? Really? Before the season started, O.K., but not after that pitiful performance against one of the worst teams in the league.

We beat the Giants in their place and the eagles looked like complete garbage, but OK if you get all of those annoying facts out of the way then Eagles and Giants are better.

RK Team RECORD CHANGE HIGH/LOW COMMENTS

Patriots
1-0 1 1/2
Stevan Ridley rushed for 100+ yards, and only once did a single player do that for the Pats last season. They haven't had an impact in the running game like that since Corey Dillon. On defense, the two first-round picks of Dont'a Hightower and Chandler Expand Description

49ers
1-0 2 2/4
For the 49ers to go on the road, and particularly to Green Bay, was impressive as any win on Sunday. In my opinion, they are the most complete team in the NFL with a scary good defense, but now an offense that can hang big points as well. They separatedExpand Description

Ravens
1-0 2 3/5
This may be the best team the Ravens have ever fielded. Even without the injured Terrell Suggs, the Ravens' defense applied consistent pressure and made Andy Dalton uncomfortable all day. Ray Lewis looks ageless as he continues to fly around the field.

Texans
1-0 2 4/6
All I can say is … J.J. Watt. There wasn't a player that made more of an impact on a game than he did on Sunday. Not only did he have 1.5 sacks, but he also tipped two passes at the line that resulted in interceptions.

Falcons
1-0 2 5/7
Of all the stellar QB-WR combinations in the NFL, Matt Ryan and Julio Jones may end up being the most explosive this season. Trading for Asante Samuel just became a whole lot more important with the season-ending injury to Brent Grimes, but not having thExpand Description

Cowboys
1-0 7 6/13
I'm always slow to jump on the Cowboys bandwagon each year, but they looked like the clear frontrunner in the NFC East -- quite possibly the best division in football. Tony Romo was consistent on offense and DeMarcus Ware's two sacks kicked off his DPOY Expand Description

Packers
0-1 4 3/7
The Packers were up against the best defense in the NFL, but I still expected more from them at home. The lack of running game is once again very prevalent and the inability to defend the pass is a huge concern. Both came back to bite them in the playoffExpand Description

Bears
1-0 4 8/12
After a rocky start, Jay Cutler settled down and showed how he will excel under the new offensive scheme of Mike Tice. He is now able to throw what he sees, rather than throwing to a predetermined spot in Mike Martz's system. And what did he say on SundExpand Description

Giants
0-1 1 8/9
Victor Cruz had three drops. Osi Umenyiora had just one tackle and applied no pressure the entire game. Sure, the defensive secondary needs some help, but those two need to step up their game for the defending Super Bowl champs to get back on track.

Just a snippet but you get the picture. I'm not sure I'm ready to put the Boys that high up but its not unreasonable to be there either.

How are the Eagles still ranked better than us? I also like how the 49ers are deemed the team to beat because they beat the Packers, but the Cowboys are garbage because they beat the Champs. I don't get it.

That's completely crazy. I normally don't give a crap about power rankings, but how the Boys are below the team they beat and a team who could barely beat their last place team is beyond me.

I don't mind teams with losses being ahead of us. These are power rankings, and winning a game doesn't necessarily mean you're better than a team that lost.

I can understand the Packers still being ahead of us. They got beat by arguably the best team in football right now.

The Eagles and Giants being ahead of the Cowboys doesn't make sense though. The Eagles looked like crap and we beat the Giants.

But whatever. We're not 'there' yet. We looked pretty good, but still have a ways to go before we look as dominant as the top three teams.

Interesting quote from one of the responses to the rankings. Sounds about right to me.

Eagles over Cowboys. I’m not even a fan of any NFC East teams, but I stopped right there. Did you watch the same team I did, which struggled against the Browns, while that other team handled the SB Champs?

I'll like the FOX rankings much more. My personal rankings would go:

1. 49ers
2. Ravens
3. Patriots
4. Cowboys
5. Falcons
6. Broncos
7. Texans
8. Packers
9. Steelers
10. Commanders
11. Jets

etc

It's like they said on Mike&Mike this morning. It's almost like the Cowboys game was three years ago. Everyone has already completely forgotten about it.

Teams like the Eagles, Giants and 49ers are still ahead of us because they were ranked so much higher than us to start the season.

Its power rankings not team standings. Most of the movement is based of the previous weeks position and they are not going to drop high ranked teams too much after just one NFL game being played.

Right but you can't possibly look at the Eagles after that game and think they're better than the Cowboys.

A closer look at the comedy posted in the article:

  • The Broncos beat the Steelers (previously ranked #2) in Denver and climb 8 spots from #14 to #6, while the Cowboys beat the New York Giants (Previously ranked #2) in New York and climb three spots from #13 to #10.
  • The article fails to mention the Cowboys beating the Giants, but instead talks about Romo returning to Seattle for the first time since the team played there over 5 years ago.
  • The Falcons beat up Kansas City and drop from #10 to #11.
  • Bears win and drop 3 spots.
  • The Commanders (previously ranked #24) climbs 11 spots after beating the Saints (previously ranked #7) who was missing their head coach.

I thought the whole point of power rankings were to rank the BEST teams.

Previous weeks position? This is week one, Eagles looked like Garbage and we beat the Giants in their home opener, by any reasonable metric we should be ahead of both of them.

That profootballtalk ranking is just your typical cowboy negativity and poo-pooing every positive aspect and magnifying all the negative aspects.

Based off of last week alone, I think you have the boys too high and texans too low. Yes, they only played Miami, but the defense was good last year and is stifling this year. Broncos looked better than the Boys, IMO also.
