Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes that teams are only allowed to practice in pads one day a week during the regular season. During the last five weeks of the regular season, teams can practice in pads one day a week in only three of those weeks.

It’s also worth noting players will get eased into training camp. There will be no hitting for the first three days of camp this year. Two practices will be allowed in a single day, but one of them has to be a light walk through.

As I mention in another thread it makes me think starters may play more min in pre season this year so coaches can get their teams ready for the reg season.

Regular season practice aside, this is probably best for the players' preseason conditioning. Rushing them into a regular season regiment could prove more harmful than good.

you will see starters playing more in preseason games for sure. The only way the coaches can get them ready since the Training Camps are now going to be all camp cupcakes.

It used to be one way coaches could shape up a team was put them in pads and work them hard the week after a bad loss. Now what?

run them until they puke.

How ironic. With all the flak Wade Phillips took for being too soft in practice, the league has adopted basically the same philosophy. I wonder how Garrett feels about this since he's a pads guy.

Did they put any time limit on the pads practices? If not then make sweat for 8 hours straight.

The league is only doing so to better protect its assets (e.g. the star players). The more stars able to survive preseason, the better the product.

Wade is trend-setter!

I realize this and I agree with it, but it carries over to late in the season. Something that would've been right up Wade's alley.

The decertification and lockout are the ones to blame for this season. Luckily, the upcoming seasons (and leaguewide player conditioning) will not be negatively impacted for the same reason.
