PFT: Report: ESPN offering Witten $4-4.5M per year

You don't even have the honor of admitting you were out of line calling me a moron....... not cool...... I never said he was going to making MORE....... I just said he was going to get around 5m per...... you are just making stuff up now to save face

And now you are even backtracking off of your own words.....what a weasel move

OK, so he has been offered more than almost all of the current announcers. I can search for the links that said most make between 500k and $2m, including the one that said ROmo was being paid $1.5m. I didn't make the numbers up.

However, YOU are completing ignoring the fact that it is a LOT less money than he would make playing football, even with it being 4.5m possibly. And the money will be there for him whenever he decides to retire. It isn't like it is going to up and disappear. It is really weird to me that ESPN would be all over him so much. While he seems like a nice enough and knowledgeable guy, he seems kind of vanilla. I don't see much as far as him being the kind of guy that would draw you in.

Witten probably doesn't see a path to superbowl victory this year, so while he might make more this current year in terms of football salary, he has to start thinking about life outside of football and how he will continue to generate income. Leave the game before you destroy your body.

Say goodbye and a Thank you .....

A lot of the future money is tied to incentives and none of it is guaranteed

If that is what he choose to do then I support him but I also do not think staying will prevent him from taking a job in broadcasting later

ESPN is living foul, they only offered me $4.0 mil per year. Jason may have played for the Cowboys, but I have been a fan much longer. The media is biased.

He's done.......

If Cowboys tight end Jason Witten plays football this year, he’ll earn a base salary of $1.05 million and up to $750,000 in per-game roster bonuses. If he accepts the pending offer from ESPN, he’ll make a lot more than that.

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports that the pending Monday Night Football offer to Witten would pay $4-4.5 million per year.

If Witten ultimately decides to keep playing for less than half the amount he’d make by not playing, the potential alternatives could include Kurt Warner, Rex Ryan, Matt Hasselbeck, Booger McFarland, and Louis Riddick. According to the Washington Post, each of those four candidates has been considered for the job.

Whoever gets the gig will be paired with Joe Tessitore, the new play-by-play announcer. ESPN has been working for months to find a replacement for Jon Gruden, who left after nine years to become coach of the Raiders.

Very misleading. He will be required to repay the 4.735M bonus he just received.

He should take it....

Though, if he didn't, he'll still get a strong spot next year.

I love that all the Ex-Cowboys are becoming announcers. Just shows the power of our brand and reach of the fanbase. It really is a testament to Jerry.

There's nothing to think about....a longterm after football career making 3X what he was going to make this year? What is there to think about?
There is nothing that would keep my in pads, knowing very well that there will not a be a Superbowl during his final year.
