APGeorgia defensive end Justin Houston and Iowa defensive tackle Christian Ballard both failed drug tests for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine according to Alex Marvez and Jay Glazer of FOX.

The information comes as news to us, but surely teams have been aware of the result for a while now. That hasn’t stopped Houston from being talked about as a late first-round draft pick, but the failure will be a red flag for teams that already questioned his snap-to-snap energy.

These kids that fail drug tests at the combine are complete idiots.

Agreed. They just cost themselves a ton of money.

yeah real bright arent they count? makes you wonder what they would do if you depended on them after drafting them,

i sure would have a red flag on them; they could get suspended because of drug use by the NFL and Goodell:star:

No kidding. I've noted many many times that intelligence should be the first prerequisite to be on my draft board. The second I see someone had failed a drug test at the combine, their name would be erased.

Maybe. But I also question the intelligence of those who stay away from players on the basis that they smoke the occasional joint.

EDIT: Check that. I suppose, given the league rules, that teams should be wary of players that indulge in marijuana. I guess, in my view, that makes the real idiots the guys who came up with the rule making marijuana a banned substance.

Patrick Peterson is the one who sold them the drugs.

AT THE COMBINE!!!

Spread the word.

Funny, but truth be told; it was Ryan Mallett. :muttley:

Red flag? They should be "in the box".

Failing a drug test means 1 of 2 things: either you have a drug problem, or you are an idiot.

Neither quality is one that a team should be looking for.

Exactly. There's no excuse at all whatsoever for failing a drug test you know is coming.

I would scoop both up gladly if they fell past the 3rd. A college kid failing a drug test for pit is the least of my concerns. Was it dumb of them to fail knowing when they were going to be tested? Yes, very. But that doesn't mean they are any less talented and a 4th round pick would be a steal for either 1. Put a little guidance in their lives when their on the roster and they'l be fine.

Cincinnati here we come.

a) I agree they're dumb as a rock.

b) I question how badly it's going to hurt them in a draft that's not particularly strong or deep. Justin Houston was never going to be a Top 30 draft pick, IMHO. He was a 2nd or 3rd round talent. How far does he drop when the 4th rounders look like nothing but training camp fodder.

EDIT: After looking at Goose's latest positional rankings, evidently it hurts them a lot. Neither one of them were even listed, and I'm pretty sure they were listed before.

Why should teams put guidance in their life they are grown men. Maybe it is time for the NFL to stop baby sitting

What is it about marijuana that turns people into idiots? I mean seriously, nothing could be so good that you are willing to sacrifice this much to do it. Is it peer pressure? Maybe they've already killed so many brain cells that they are just too stupid to realize the consequences of the stupidity. It is baffling.
