Report: Ruling from Judge Nelson expected on Monday

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 21, 2011, 9:33 AM EDT

With mediation over for nearly a month, the next labor domino to fall should be a ruling from Judge Susan Nelson on the pending motion to lift the lockout.

Gary Myers of the New York Daily News reports we won’t have to wait much longer. Myers hears that a ruling is expected Monday, just three days before the first round of the NFL Draft.

“The players are the heavy favorites to win this round,” Myers writes.

 So I guess we can start talking about Cowboys free agency on Monday instead of labor talk.

Man, I hope free agency doesn't start before the draft. I don't know how fast the league will start doing business, or how fast the owners will start snapping up players if the injunction is granted, but I want teams to be unsure of free agency and a higher value be placed on draft picks. Helps us if we want to trade down.

Definitely no cannon infarction there.

Very good point raised. But on such short timing, it will be very difficult to swing into full speed on team commitments, either veteran or draft. This should prove to some high dollar speculations similar to the bonanzas about a gold rush. There could even be the possibility for a trade or two with picks as well.

I think this could be bad, because teams like carolina or tennesee who need a QB wont be forced into drafting one now, which will definetly make it an interesting draft. Maybe im wrong

A ruling in favor of the players wouldn’t simply re-open the NFL for business again. A stay on the ruling is expected pending appeal, which will take another indefinite amount of time to settle.
It may or may not be expected, but it's certainly not guaranteed that a stay will be granted.

Ok so if the Judge lifts the injunction. Then the NFL sends in the paperwork for the Appeal (since we know both have that read so it can be sent in)...will the judge say that the injunction will stay until the appeal court rules...or will she stop it until the appeal court rules.

In other words if she has the injunction lifted (if that is her decision) is it automatically the start of FA until the appeal court decides if it would stop or is that still something she could stop before the appeal court rules.

I am confused on that one issue.

Ill be pissed if the Eagles are able to trade Kolb before or during the draft

This will be very bad news. We need this thing to be lifted the following Monday, and here is why.

Philadelphia will can trade Kolb to Arizona, or San Fran and get the 5th or 7th pick in this draft. I think he would be worth it in this QB starved league (I could be wrong). Thus giving Philly the opportunity to help there defensive backfield with you guessed it, Hos' baby boy, PP.

Let that marinate for a while.

Judge Nelson would first enjoin the lockout.

The owners would appeal the injunction immediately.

The owners would then file a motion with Judge Nelson to stay the injunction pending appeal, which Judge Nelson would either grant or deny.

If she grants the stay of the injunction pending appeal, the lockout would stay in place during the appeal of the injunction ruling.

If she denies the motion to stay the injunction, the owners would ask the appellate court to stay the motion.

If the appellate court grants the stay, the lockout would stay in place. If the appellate court desnies the stay, the lockout would be prohibited. And if they deny the stay, you can bet your life's savings they're going to ultimately rule in favor of the players.

Chances are Nelson will grant a stay because there's irreparable harm to the owners.

whoa i dont think kolb is worth a top 10 draft pick. He is not really that good. His play in 2010 was not good at all. If he would of been the eagles QB all season they would not have made the play offs.
Now maybe they can get their second round draft pick or a late first but not a top 10 pick.

Tell that story to the teams looking to draft Cam, Locker, and Gabbert possibly in the Top 10. I don't think he's any where close to worth it, but those guys are unproven in this league and I've heard that Zona is really high on him.

Plus remember this is a QB starved league, where the likes of Dalton, Ponder, and Kapernik who are all 3-4th rounders could possible go 1st, early 2nd round because of reaches.

true but i think the eagles are crazy to trade him. Vick is going to get injured again. They minus well continue there plan with starting Kolb who is only 26 and let him develope. Michael Vick is about to turn 30 and most of his game is built around him running. He already doesn't slide/ slide right.
Boy would it be funny if the eagles do trade kolb then vick gets injured and the eagles miss the playoffs mean while kolb has a alright year on some other team and then the eagles fans grill andy reid. You now how philly fans are:laugh2:

She will lift the lockout. The owners will immediately appeal and seek an injunction.

That is my exact concern. Or they could trade him to Seattle and then trade both their number ones and move up ahead of us to get Peterson.

They arnt going to get that high a pick without giving up something else.

No team is that stupid. Kolb is not worth anywhere near that high a pick.

And we'll see the status quo for another month or so.

No kidding.

Is everyone taking Andy Reid at his word that Kolb is some great talent? Hasn't anyone actually paid attention to the fact that he's pretty much sucked when he's gotten on the field?
