ROSENHAUS SAYS “SEVERAL TEAMS” ARE INTERESTED IN OWENS

Posted by Mike Florio on March 6, 2009, 8:28 a.m.

As the list of teams that have said publicly or off-the-record that they aren’t interested in receiver Terrell Owens grows, his agent claims that “several teams” would like to acquire the player’s services.

“These are several teams that are interested in signing Terrell,” Drew Rosenhaus told us Friday morning. “I have been in negotiations with these teams. I will not identify these teams at this time.”

So how quickly will this process unfold?

“Terrell and I expect to have a deal in place by the end of next week if not sooner,” Rosenhaus said.

A total of sixteen teams (and counting) appear on our Anti-T.O. List, reflecting the teams that publicly or privately have said that they won’t be pursuing the free agent.

In our view, possible destinations include the Broncos, the Raiders, and maybe even the Colts.

But we’ve got a feeling that, if Owens lands anywhere, it could be with a team that no one expected to be in the running.

And we also don’t rule out the possibility that the team that ultimately gets him will be a team that initially said “no thanks,” since such an approach might be the best way to soften his salary expectations.

I think Drew Rosenhaus is full of it saying several teams are interested.

Think he is just trying to drum up a market for maybe one or two teams.

But...It is his job.

49ers GM doesn't rule out a T.O. return

Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News reports 49ers General Manager Scot McCloughan left the door open — if just a crack — for the 49ers to pursue wide receiver Terrell Owens.

McCloughan did not rule out signing receiver Terrell Owens, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday.

During an interview on KNBR radio, McCloughan initially gave a vague answer about Owens by explaining that the 49ers evaluate every free agent on the market.

Brian Murphy, co-host of the "Murph & Mac" morning show, pressed the issue by saying, "So official statement from the 49ers: 'Not closing the door?'"

"Correct," McCloughan said.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to think a team is NOT going to sign him.

I bet just as many teams as were interested in Manny Ramirez.

What, you guys thought his career would be over because we cut him? Someone is going to sign him, and he'll start there.

Who signed Terry Glenn after we cut him huh? Get your facts straight. When we cut WRs they are toast. [/joking]

I don't think any team with intentions to compete for the playoffs will be interested. They just won't take the chance that he will fracture the lockeroom. It's going to be a desperate team that takes the chance I think. The smart thing at this point is to give him a one year deal. He seemed to behave and play well without a longterm deal that included a signing bonus.

Yes someone will sign him and I don't think anyone ever thought different. The idea that several teams are after him is quite likely well over blown. There are probably no more than 2, maybe 3 or 4, teams that would even be interested in him and the stuff that comes with him.

The media knows someone is going to sign him. TO has plenty in the tank and I would not be surprised is 5 or more teams are interested. I'm thinking Denver, Washington, San Francisco and Oakland. All need WR help.

If TO goes to the Colts, Jerry is going to be banging his head against the wall, watching TO put up among the best number of his career. One of the bone-headed moves of Jerry Jones in his history as the Cowboys owner.

I hope he goes to the Raiders. Or that if he goes to a contender they suddenly flop. The reactions of the TO cabal will be hilarious.

Oh please let Mike Singletary get a hold of TO... Talk about getting your popcorn ready.

It will be the same excuses. They didn't get him the ball enough. They don't call the right plays for him. On and on and on

Denver? You mean the team with Marshall and Royal already starting and doing a great job? Doubtful.

Washington...Yes that is one of the two that I think might have serious interest.

San Fran? With Mike there as HC? Are you kidding me? No way. TO wouldn't last 3 minutes in Mike's locker room before he was in trouble.

Oakland...This is honestly the place I think he'll wind up for a couple of reasons. 1 they need the help and he'll be the undisputed #1 target there. 2 they'll be the team most willing to throw the money at him.

I doubt, very seriously, that the Colts will even take a look at him. I can't see that team putting Manning through having to deal with TO when the Colts offense is just fine without him.

I'd get my dish back and sign up for the ticket again just to watch their interaction. The same goes if were to sign with KC. :laugh2:
