Cowboys owner Jerry Jones informed wide receiver Roy Williams on Tuesday that he’s losing his job following two and a half disappointing years with the Cowboys. Williams says he completely understands and even agrees with the decision.

“It is a business,” Williams told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It is what it is. It’s a business. I would have done the same thing.”

The Cowboys gave up first- and third-round picks to acquire Williams from the Lions and gave him a hefty new contract, and Williams totaled just 94 catches for 1,324 yards and 13 touchdowns in 40 games in Dallas. Williams knows he fell far short of expectations.

“It wasn’t even close to what I thought it was going to be,” Williams said. “I appreciated the opportunity Mr. Jones gave me. I just a chance to play with three of the best players I have ever seen in Jason Witten, Jay Ratliff and DeMarcus Ware. It was a great opportunity. But it’s over.”

Roy strikes me as being a good guy. All involved are sorry it didn't work out, I think.

Maybe he can find a rapport with someone somewhere.

That's real class. I have always liked Roy,just didn't live up to the expectations.Good luck Roy.

Never understood the personal dislike of the guy by many. He didnt force anyone to pay him that much or give a 1st and 3rd.

I'm a little nervous he's gone actually. Hopefully Dez and Miles will stay healthy.

I agree completely.

the hate came from very small people in every way.

I think he was too easy going for Garrett; probably the main reason he is gone. With the current uncertainty regarding Dez, they probably would have preferred to keep him for this season at least.

I hope he signs with the bears and helps out that offense. He looked like he was coming into his own during the start of the season before romo got hurt.

I agree. I really hoped things could work out but they didn't. I still think Dallas will have to bring in a WR to add to the mix

Hard to do when your looking to cut money to get under the cap.

This one was a business decision. One can hardly blame Jerry Jones for doing just this after going through an intense negotiation period involving player income and organizational strengths. Roy Williams just didn't approach good value in any sense.

And I'm sorry. He was a prideful athlete that just wasn't able to deliver for a variety of reasons, while with Dallas.

Class act. A talented player, just didn't work out. Shame but it is what it is. Good luck to him though.

I just never could get past that game where he had the long gain and fumbled the ball and we lost the game and it seemed like our season.Honestly the real problme with this guy is he couldn't get open and he dropped too many. These are not the kinds of things we paid him to do.I personally don't think he will be in the NFL much longer. He isn't what he was when he was in Detroit.Somewher he lost a step and his mojo.

For a lot of people it's because he's a Longhorn. Lot or UT hate on this board.

ROY: No sweat, Jerry, I would have done the same thing -- now pardon me while I go to the bank and make a hefty deposit . . . (laughing all the way)

Seriously, though, at least he departed with a touch of class. That was nice to see.

Of his roster bonus from a year ago? You think he held the check that long? You do realize he gets nothing for being cut? That bonus acceleration (for 2012 BTW) is only on the Cowboy's cap. Roy got his money a long time ago. This event nets him nothing - only assures he won't get anymore from Jerry.

Bah. I liked Roy. As soon as Austin became the perennial downfield threat and Dez proved how increadible his potential was, it was pretty obvious that it made no fiscal sense to use the most expensive #3 reciever in the history of the game. Best of luck to him.
