While NFL fans love to tune in to NFL Network and watch the 40-yard dash, bench press and position-specific drills at the Scouting Combine, the most important reason for the Combine is something that isn’t shown on TV: The physical exam.
Florio mentioned on today’s PFT Live that he discussed the Combine with an NFL general manager who said the physical is the most significant part of the Combine. Having an opportunity to put 300-plus players through a complete medical checkup is important for teams to learn how players are healing from injuries, whether there are any health problems that could raise red flags, and how capable players are of making it through an NFL season unscathed.
