Despite being used only 10 times per year for NFL games (plus home postseason contests and, for some, a periodic Super Bowl), NFL stadiums become obsolete in roughly a single generation.

For Washington, where FedEx Field opened in 1997, the time is approaching for a new venue. Owner Daniel Snyder tells CSN Washington that the team has “started the process” of planning for a new home.

“Whether it’s Washington, D.C., whether it’s another stadium in Maryland, whether it’s a stadium in Virginia, we’ve started the process,” Snyder said. “We are going to push forward. We’ve started meeting with architectural firms. We are in the process of developing because it is a long term that you do it.”

Snyder says the new stadium would have a throwback look and feel...

Orchestrating the construction of a billion dollar stadium is an exceedingly easy task. Permanently retiring a xenophobic namesake? That's

At what point do tax payers get to say go suck an egg, that's a scarcely 17 year old facility, rennovate it if anything needs updating, stadiums should last 50 years if they were built intelligently.

If Jerry Jones tries to build a new stadium 17 seasons after Cowboys Stadium (granted he'll probably be dead), I will personally stop watching the team.

The Falcons are getting a new stadium, which should be ready by 2017. The Georgia Dome opened in 1992 and underwent major renovations in 2006.

Of course everyone wants a new stadium.

They make a lot of money outside of football.

Yea.....Fed ex field isn't in or really near Ft Washington.

Its close a 15 minute drive you are in the outskirts of DC. The issue is if manages the new stadium like he does the current one the only state that will let him do that is Maryland.

I live with in walking distance of the stadium and work in Ft Washington and it's not a 15 minute drive, unless there is no traffic and you completely ignire the speed limit

I believe the Atlanta Braves built Turner Field in 1996 and are building a new stadium. If you have ever been to Turner Field, the stadium just feels like a brand new stadium. Demolishing and building a new stadium seems like an incredible waste of taxpayer funds.

I had not heard that. The people of Atlanta must be flush with money.

I didn't say Ft. Washington was 15 minutes away I said DC was 15 minutes away, and i consulted google maps and I was wrong it is 24 minutes away with light traffic.

Nice use of a big word, too bad you used it wrong. Xenophobia is a fear of foreigners, stangers or anything strange or foreign. I'm offended that you find Native Americans "strange" and "foreign".

As for the Stadium--THANK GOD. I haven't been to FedEx in years--I loathe that stadium.

You got me, good sir.

http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/xenophobic

I should have gone with xenophobic synonyms as they apply to intolerance, racism, and/or prejudice like averse, contemptuous, disdainful, indignant, intolerant, discriminatory, doctrinaire or intransigent.

Don't thank the Almighty for anything related to Washington. It would be more appropriate thanking the other guy. You know. The other guy... has horns... a pitchfork... Jerry Jones sold his soul to him... that guy.

Daniel Snyder has the Granddaddy stadium of the NFC East. He's seen Arlington and New Jersey parlay recently built stadiums into Super Bowl venues. Of course, he wants another stadium. The question is whether he will be smart enough to put a dome over it.

I guess Danny Boy has been to the house the Jerry built.

I actually hope they go fewer seats. There are far too many opposing fans at FedEx--which has more to do with the general population of DC: very transient, a lot of people move to the area for jobs due to the presence of the government.

I'd love a ~70K seat stadium, right on top of the field like RFK was.

And THANK GOD Snyder wants the stands to shake. Not to start a s-talking storm, but one of the iconic moments in Commanders history was the "We Want Dallas" before the 82 NFC Championship game, with the stands bouncing like they were on hydraulics:

I think quite the contrary. What better way than to backpedal into it by saying "well, we decided to usher in a new era of Washington football as the Washington Admirals" or whatever, along with a new fan store complete with all-you-can-buy new gear, increased ticket sales, a fancy new stadium, and fancy new naming rights.

Come one, come all -- be the first to bid on the new stadium for naming rights as we, the Washington football club, open up our new stadium with our new, non-offensive name, respecting the wishes of Natives across the United States!

Dan Snyder is nothing if not a businessman.

You could always go the Canadian way and refuse to provide tax dollars for pro stadiums.
