I think Phil Simms likes Mallett but he also liked his son Chris who sucks.

Mallett is my 5th favorite QB in this class, that's not really good.

This class is really deep, but thin at the top, I wouldn't want Newton or Gabbert anywhere close to where they will be drafted, Locker is my 3rd because he has the leadership of a Tebow and the physical tools of a Newton/McNabb type player, if he can somehow improve his accuracy he'll be a top 5-7 QB in the league, he's either going to be great or out of the league in a few years, I doubt they'll be a middle ground for Jake Locker

I'm a UGA guy, and Carter was never anywhere near as good there as Mallett was at Arkansas. Nor was Carter anywhere near the passing talent that Mallett is. Mallett's also been playing in an NFL style offense under Petrino.


He isn't a sure thing, but if he applies himself h's got by far the best pure passing ability of anyone in this years draft.

Mallett is really an enigma. He could be another Jeff George; or another Phill Rivers. I have a hunch it will be one or another and flip a coin to decide which.

Outside of Gabbert I would not take any of them in the first.

My problem with Locker is that you do not find hardly ANY QBs that got more accurate going from college to the Pros. In more than half his starts he did not get over 60% completion; his career was less than 58%. He needs to be around 65% to be a real good pro. I do not know of any QB that ever improved that much going to the pros.

I don't think anyone doubts Mallett's talent. Other than some bad INTs in pressure situations, he's extremely gifted. But so was Jeff George.

you show me any QB that has not had some bad picks in pressure situations and I show you a QB that was never in any since he sat on the bench. But yeah its above the neck that is the concern about Mallett.

Pretty much where I was headed with it. My Quincy Carter comparison has absolutely zero to do with his quarterbacking ability.

We can disagree on this one, because I think the guy with the best passing ability is Locker if he gets the right coaching.

But I wasn't comparing Mallett's QB ability to Carter's. It's all of the extracurricular activity that's alarming.

I agree, it's boom or bust but if (and i mean IF) this guy has his head on straight from now on he could be special.
