STEELERS NEGOTIATING INJURY SETTLEMENT WITH BATCH
Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2008, 8:59 p.m.

Although the Steelers have placed quarterback Charlie Batch on injured reserve, a league source tells us that the team is attempting to negotiate an injury settlement with him.

Such a transaction would be the equivalent of releasing him.

Batch’s broken collarbone is due to be fully healed in the next few weeks, and the Steelers will be permitted to cut him once he is healthy again. The alternative is to work out the number of weeks for which he’ll be paid, and then parting ways now.

Batch joined the Steelers as a free agent way back in 2002, after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Lions. We actually broke the news of his arrival in Pittsburgh, and our report was met with skepticism and outright ridicule by some members of the Pittsburgh media.

In the end, however, it became one of this blind squirrel’s first bona fide acorns.

Batch might be a good option when healthy.
I agree...he has always been a good backup and he had his moments as a starter in Detroit. I would like to take a look at him if we don't get Simms. We need to get someone else in here to learn the system before Johnson retires. Batch would not be a bad option.

No thanks. We have one way past his prime QB already. We don't need another. I'd sooner have Simms or even Bollinger than Batch. I would change my mind if Brad Johnson was cut to make way for Batch ... I'd be okay with that. :)
