JACKSON BENCHED, FREROTTE TO START FOR VIKINGS

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 17, 2008, 12:58 p.m.
Two games into the season, the Minnesota Vikings have made a change at quarterback.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Gus Frerotte will replace Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

So far this season Jackson has completed 30 of 59 passes for 308 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Frerotte started three games for the Vikings last season and completed 94 of 167 passes for 1,014 yards, with seven touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

..Shocker there

It's about time that Childress blinked. His stubbornness has already cost the Vikings two games.

He should have done something before the season started when he had the chance to acquire a better quarterback.

The Vikings weren't even gonna be in the playoffs with Jackson at QB. He should have been benched for 2 years at least to start his career. Childress has likely ruined him.

Hasn't Frerotte been playing in the league since dinosaurs walked the earth?

I am still shocked they did not make a move for a QB. Yeah, they showed interest in Favre, but they could have and should have done more.

I wonder why no move for Culpepper. I thought that knee had healed.

Gussy boy isn't going to help much.

Also don't see Gruden making that trade (Garcia).

But if we ever did face them, they'd stand a better chance with Frerotte--as ludicrous as that sounds.

why not just led AP play qb and see what happens?

Vikings fans were saying before the season started that Booty would be the starter before seasons end.

They should have gone after Garcia when he left Philly and then let TJ develop from the bench. He'd be ready by next year, and Garcia would have got that team into the playoffs last year and saved Coach McRaney's job this season.

I attribute it to Childress' arrogance and failure to admit his mistakes.

I've never seen a coach who's never accomplished anything have such an arrogant attitude.

If anything, the only thing that guy has done is hold back the talent they have in Minnesota.

And he now realizes that keeping Jackson as the starter would ultimately cost him his job.

But I agree, the team could have and should have done more.

I know they could have had Sage Rosenfels for a 2nd rounder but they would only pay a 3rd.

They could have gotten Favre if either they or he had the stomach for it to get nasty, but neither party did so he's a Jet.

And despite Gruden's latest lies, they can get Garcia if they want him. I think he'd be better than anyone they currently have.
