PFT: Troy Smith questions Goodell on emphasis of off-field conduct problem

I'm glad Troy Smith asked question and others should have as well. When the meeting is over no one should have any excuses for poor behavior. These guys have a chance to play a game they love and make damn good money in the process all the NFL ask is for guys to keep themselves out of trouble and preach to them about the pit falls they may face and how to avoid it the rest is up to each individual

Troy won't have to worry, he'll be in Canada in 2 years.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Troy might want to think about making the team and establishing himself in the league a tiny bit before challenging the Commish on what Goodell can do for him.

You want to keep this up.

You said that it was bad press to have the punishment aired on the media.

You are wrong.

Justice is good press every day of the week!!!!

Justice isn't the message that people get -- they get that a guy is being punished then they get a huge list of the bad stuff he did -- with maybe a list of all the Bengals problems thrown in there. The message that most people come away with is that you need to do a ton of bad stuff to get punished by the league and there are a lot of bad people in the league.

Challenging the commish on what Goodell can do for him?

Yeah, heaven forbid someone like Troy Smith asks the Commish why there is a lack of positive press coming from the NFL/Commish.

He should be a good foot soldier and not speak up until the Pulpit asks him to do so.

The message they get is "the turd got what he deserved" and they go away thinking that the NFl is finally doing something about those turds!

"finally doing something"

yeah -- that's a good message. "Gee folks, it took us forever but now look! We actually did something!"

Well, it sure beats, Oh well the NFL lets another Player do whatever he wants.

You are just arguing for the sake of arguing like I said before and you are wrong. Justice is good press!

For some reason you don't like any negative light being put on the Union, Upshaw or the players themselves. It is rather bizzare that you fight so desparately for Upshaw, and the union. What are you, a union rep or something?

and like I said "justice" isn't the message that people are getting

Huh? You don't get good press from punishing people either. He pointed to that lack of balance in the focus.

sure you do, if alot of people are fed up w/ the off-field disbehavior

:lmao2:

btw, I don't get why Troy Smith is looking for a feel-good story, everyone needs to be made aware, esp. rookies, of what is expected of them and how they should conduct themselves, and be made aware of the consequences for not acting accordingly

w/ all the arrests, you need to hammer the point home that it's not tolerated

If the world were to appoint a spokesman for all people, you wouldn't even be on the list of prospects. Just an FYI since you seem to have given yourself this prestigious title.

Don't bother trying to educate this abersonc guy. He runs around with blinders on and thus has a very narrow point of view.

if you're not getting it, that's your problem, don't assume noone else does

Last month, former NFL defensive lineman Esera Tuaolo was the first openly gay player to speak at the rookie symposium.

Asked one attendee during Tuaolo's session, "Is it offensive if I call you a ****** if you are a ******?"

Many readers were curious as to the identity of the person who asked the question. On Tuesday, we received a tip in this regard, and we then obtained confirmation from a league source.

The question, we're told, was posed by former USC tailback LenDale White, second-round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans.

Wow thats Gangsta... Good question though. I wonder how he answered?

Kilyin, you prove once again that you love to jump into arguments and take shots but refuse to have a legitimate discussion on topics. Of course, if I had your brain, I'd avoid the discussing issues too.

I'm not assuming no one else does -- the point was that punishing people being the only thing you get press for doesn't create a good image. In fact, that is exactly the point that Smith made.

You know what confuses me? Where's the huge uproar from these guys peers? Where is the outcry from the players? You have a few knuckleheads like Portis that support their behavior, but where are the big name players speaking out against the commish? Ya know why there isn't? Because 80% of the players don't want these idiots in the game either.
