COWBOYS IMPLOSION COMING?

There's a sense in some league circles that, regardless of how the 2007 season turns out for the Dallas Cowboys, a decline is on the way.

As one source said, Dallas is "going to be a disaster within two years."

The problem? Per the source, owner/G.M. Jerry Jones is "believing it's about him again, just like he did when Jimmy Johnson brought them to the top."

The source predicts that former head coach Bill Parcells and former V.P. of college and pro scouting Jeff Ireland are "going to pick them clean," and that Jones is going to let it (continue to) happen, because Jones thinks he doesn't need them.

The result? "They'll go back to drafting Quincy Carter, Ebenezer Ekuban, Solomon Page, Dwayne Goodrich, Tony Dixon, and Antonio Bryant," opined the source.

The other concern is the approach of coach Wade Phillips. As the source observed, the "coach-lets-us-act-like-men" approach quickly results in the inmates running the prison.

It's hard to disagree. After all, would quarterback Tony Romo have taken a bye-week trip to Cabo San Lucas if the Tuna were still the head coach? Maybe, but Romo would be walking a little funny this week, given that he'd have Parcells shoe lodged into his descending colon.

If Tuna were still the head coach we wouldn't be 13-3 and have a bye week on which he could take the damn trip.

PFT needs to read up about Tom Ciskowski and Mike Murphy. Clearly they think Ireland was the only real talent in Valley Ranch. He wasn't. Not by a long shot.

To be honest though, that is pretty much conjecture, just like the article from PFT.

I agree with you, but there is no way of really knowing.

It's a lot more believable than the PFT crap, though.

Pick them clean of what? Take Sparano as head coach, good for him. What are they going to do, sign Spears, Carpenter, and Fasano when their deals are up? Parcells might not even be there then!

Of course there's no way of knowing. But c'mon, there's really not much more talent on this year's team compared to last year's team. In some areas, there's less (due to injuries). Yet the teams aren't even comparable. The difference is coaching.

I agree with you.

But I never thought Bill Parcells would go 10-6 his first year either.

Now, I know there were some special circumstances that season but I don't think anyone thought that we could make it to the Playoffs that year.

I pretty much agree with you but I really wouldn't be suprised if we are sitting pretty with Bill Parcells as the coach. The guy has had some success in the NFL.

But for the most part, I think you probably are right, we just will never know.

I could use "per the source" and make up crap too.

Yep.

The source is probably his couch potato buddy.

BP was too conservative and he didn't like our best player (arguably). That prevented us from reaching our full potential. 13-3 under BP? I doubt it, seriously.

His source has about a 50/50 chance of being right. I sure didn't like Jerry's minimalization of Ireland's role, or the fact that he seemed pretty content to just let Gaines walk.

I don't think it's the start of anything ominous - after all, Jerry recognized what a magnificent coach Parcells was and made attempts to keep him around this season, but that magnificent coach just didn't have another one in him. But Jerry clearly still wanted his influence around, if he could have it.

Too early to panic, or predict "Dallas is "going to be a disaster within two years.""

It wouldn't surprise me too much. But the ball is in Jerry's hands, now we get to see what he does with it.

I have been thinking this all year. Parcells is like my 75 year old neighbor who has a Corvette in his garage....only drives it 45 MPH on the highway.
