Here's Cowboys coach Wade Phillips talking about Sunday's disappointing home loss to the Jaguars, which dropped Dallas to 1-6.

He says he hopes he hasn't lost his team. Based on his demeanor, it seems like he fears that he has.

As to whether he'll finish the season as coach of the Cowboys, it doesn't matter. Owner Jerry Jones said that Phillips won't be fired during the campaign.

This reminds me of the old story when Jimmy Johnson was talking about Lin Elliott.

Him saying he didn't know was really all that was necessary to Coach Johnson to hear in order to cut him.

yep, just sad, but thats who wade is, he just doesnt know, but remember now,he says he is one of the most winning coaches in percentages in NFL

this is why wade doesnt succeed, he has no clue, about discipline, and being rough on players

dont misunderstand me, jerry jones is to blame for this too, way jerry runs the team

ok jerry you have done it your way basically since jimmy johnson left,
how does that suit you now jerry,
remember when jimmy johnson used to get onto the players, cut, release, trade ones that werent performing, and you were letting jimmy do that jerry?

time to wake up and smell the roses jerry jones

you say your dumbfounded, but you havent seen anything yet,
even cowboys fans were covering their faces jerry at your cowboys stadium

do you realize in the giants cowboys game, that a fan were hollering give her all first half jerry, but crying and depressed after the game
do you realize that some fans had to help carry her out of the stadium jerry?

yet, your so called high priced players, drop balls, dont make tackles, etc... and you want fans to root for the cowboys, with you letting the players play like this jerry?

wake up jerry, this team needs discipline in a bad way, and wade isnt that type person

you have to shake this team up jerry, makes some cuts, release some players, send a message, and get a coach that the team fears, and the whole team knows that what the head coach says goes, not you jerry

thats part of the big problem,

the head coach has got to have control jerry,

Let me make it perfectly clear for ol Wade... Even the defense (something he could always hang his hat on) has quit on him... Good riddance. There's no way Jerry maintains the status quo with this one. Wade may be gone by Wednesday.

Or the reverse, the Maker (***) meets Jerry Jones head-on, tells him, all kingdoms, powers, principelaties are mine, everything under the sun is mine. Your just a steward, no one really owns the Cowboys (using Jerry Jones own words here, no one really owns the Cowboys), but Jerry Jones maker meets him head-on, and tells him point blank, quit messing up with team, forget your big ego.

Wade's the lame duck, despite who brought him here. Yes, Wade isn't the man for the job, but who's next? Jason Garrett? I'm a bit biased in the negative direction with this move, because all it is is Jerry and his comfort zone.

Had Garrett been hired elsewhere a few years ago as HC, I might have thought, hey not a bad move, but with how I feel about Jones and his motives, I can't even view it optimistically.

I haven't advocated Garrett but at this point what do you have to lose?

Give him the shot and at least get it out of your system.

If he even makes the team respectable, that would mean a lot.

If not, we can truly realize how lost we are and wholesale changes can be made.

I think this if the rumor about wade and jerry that sdogo said, if wade steps down after green bay, jerry jones will promote jason garrett as interim head coach. Then, still with a losing year, even jason running things, jerry will hopefully see, he cant do it his way anymore, teams have caught up talent wise etc, and you need a disciplined type coach like jimmy johnson with total control, that choses his own coaches, staff and cuts, trades, or releases players he doesnt want.

When players dont perfrom, that new head coach hopefully sometime next year, disciplines the players, works then hard in practices, training camp, offseason etc... And gets this team back on the right track, with top talent drafted high in the draft, impact players. You generally get impact players high in the draft.

Well that depends on what you mean. Give him a shot at finishing out the year, or going into next season? I think what you have to lose in promoting him after the season, is another year (and probably more) off the professional lives of your core players.

Give him the job now, for the rest of this season.

If he somehow makes the team even respectable, you have to at least consider him for next season.

If he doesn't, there's no reason for any of them to stick around.

It's not the ideal circumstance, but at least you can say he got a chance and you could at least evaluate him.

But in no way would I consider giving him the job next year if Wade rides this one out.
