NT Jason Ferguson is done for the season, and it is feared that CB Terence Newman (plantar fasciitis) could be less than 100 percent healthy all season. OLB Greg Ellis could in the same boat; his Achilles injury has been a mystery, and though he practiced last week, it’s not known when he might be able to play, say, 40-50 snaps in a game. He was inactive in Week Two. His bursitis, like Newman’s injury, could linger. The Cowboys allowed 35 points in the opener, but don’t blame these players’ replacements.

NT Jay Ratliff more than held his own after Ferguson went down, though he does need help inside, being undersized. Ratliff recovered a fumble vs. the Dolphins in Week Two. And CB Jacques Reeves did a fairly admirable job vs. the Giants, though he did have a breakdown in the fourth quarter vs. Miami, getting flagged for pass interference and then surrendering a touchdown on the next play. You can expect the Cowboys to play more zone-based coverages. First-round OLB Anthony Spencer has been acceptable to date. Overall, the defense showed improvement from Week One to Week Two, forcing four interceptions of Trent Green and shutting down Miami’s rushing attack.

The dolphins set reeves up by the book. And he fell for it on the td throw hook line and sinker.

That is not a good thing to have on film. He needs to get better each week.

I think canty played well yesterday and bradie james outside of one really bad missed tackle on third down was good.

James missed at least one assignment in the flats again. Don't remember when it was in the game, but he bit on PA and his guy snuck out in the flats (just like last year).

Anybody hear anything conclusive about whether or not Newman's injury is likely to be a chronic problem? Last I heard, it was expected to hamper him all year, but recent quotes from coaches and the owner indicate that they're expecting it to get better fand for Terrence to come back healthy when he returns.
