The prevailing thought around the NFL coming into this weekend was that Oklahoma RB Adrian Peterson was an extremely tough guy with a warrior's mentality. He proved that Sunday when he performed, as planned, with the other running backs, even running scintillating 40 times, despite the fact that his 20-year-old half-brother was shot seven times and killed Saturday night. We hear that Peterson's performance, despite likely not getting much sleep at all, has cemented his standing as one of the top three picks in the draft.

its a shame, hes gone through a lot, when he was like 7 his older brother died in his arms after getting hit by a car, then his dad got locked up and now this

peterson is going to have a great career. some call him injury prone but his injuries have been freakish. he'll be fine and he'll but up some great numbers

freak injuries happen. Like a broken shoulder blade from a freak hit. Or like getting a high ankle sprain while getting rolled up from behind. They just happen.

He went to OU, of course he'll be a great one. LOL

Someone on NFLN today compared him to Eric Dickerson only a tad bit slwoer. I believe it was Jamie Dukes. Anyway they were all gushing about this guy.

yea ive been thinking all along that he looks just like erik dickerson

i cannot believe this.......the insults toward ED.....Peterson is not now, nor will he ever be ED.....ED was a beast, he was 3 times the stud in college that Peterson was.....His first 4 years in the NFL are the best of any back ever.....ED was the man

So the guys on NFLN that said he has the same body type, running style, college production and pro potential were just lying? They didn't say he would be the same pro as Dickerson he just reminds everyone of Dickerson.

Somewhere, Jason White disagrees.

buuuut, I still think Adrian Peterson will be a good one.

Hmmm, sounds to me like his family is not what you'd call solid citizens... I mean, it's sad about him losing his brother, but with a dad in jail and a brother shot dead, that suggests some involvement in what we'll gently describe as illegal activities...

Which is not to trash Adrian, it appears he's lifted himself out of all that crap... so I'll hope that he's able to get past this latest tragedy, and go on to have a successful NFL career (preferably somewhere in the AFC)...

And I'll hope that he's able to stay above the muck and mire his family was apparently up to their necks in... here's hoping that from now on, avoiding injury is his biggest worry...

Given that Dickerson had some injury problems his own self, that sounds like an apt comparison... it's that upright running style that leads to those problems...

more on peterson

POSTED 2:53 p.m. EST; UPDATED 2:54 p.m. EST, February 25, 2007

PETERSON RUNS A 4.34

Though Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson unofficially has been clocked at 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash, his time has been clocked by some scouts as a 4.34.

Peterson, a likely top-ten pick, unofficially posted a 4.43 in his second try.

wow 4.38 or 4.34, peterson might start to be considered for #1 overall if he keeps this up

you can read it two ways; one, Peterson's family (and Adrian himself) are involved in some shady activities and this will eventually catch up with him or, two, that Adrian did lift himself 'above the muck'

I'm inclined to believe the latter--and this makes Peterson all the more impressive

One problem with that is that family is family, and sometimes you never really can escape that.

he officially ran a 4.40, is there another link to this being true, cuz he just did an interview after he did his workout and he looked pretty cheerful and was making jokes and stuff and none of this weas every mentioned.

it's dumb to say his family aren't solid citizens without knowing everything, if it's true about his half brother getting killed, what if he had nothing to do w/ the situation, just like darrent williams.

about him being compared to erik dickerson, they said he looked like dickerson when dickerson was at SMU, and how do u know that he'll never be as good, he definitley looks more like dickerson than anyone else

Wow.....I did not know this.......he has gone through a lot.:(

I think someone will get a very good RB in this draft with Peterson. Injuries happen but when this guy is healthy he is a difference maker.
