Garret should be smart enough to realize that nothing sets up the pass better than a solid run attack. i would like to see more power running in between the tackles and the go voer the top once the defense brings more players closer to the LOS.

Actually, during JG's early days as a backup QB for us, he saw Norv give the green light to Troy to light it up in the 1st half then run ES down their throats in the 2nd half. Just look at Troy's 1st half stats vs. his 2nd half stats.

Maybe the problem is that we start every game so cold until Romo warms up so we never get that 1st half lead ?

Romo needs to warm up more before games I guess :)

Great post. You might be onto something.

As for this idea that Garrett is just too stubborn or ignorant to run the ball, I suppose some of you have never bothered to even watch and note how ordinary our run blocking is. There might be a real reason why we just don't walk out there and run it down other team's throats.

We either need to get better at it or we need new linemen. That is Houck's responsibility just as much as it is Garrett's to change the mentality.

.

They weren't very good at pass blocking either, and utterly abhorrent at blitz pickups by the end of the year. By the time Romo was a walking contusion down the stretch and Choice was averaging over 5 yards a pop we really should have become a run first team - the line was going to suck either way, but we could have rested the D more, limited turnovers and kept Romo upright.

Of course then there would have been a lot more Deion interviews, but hey...

We need to be more balanced while not giving up on the run. While we are at it, we need to get rid of the majority of shotgun and spread elements from our offensive game plan while emphasizing slants, outs, and skinny posts in our passing tree.

We need to be balanced.

If they are jamming T.O. at the line and keeping a safety 20 yards off the answer is to run.

I won't flame Garrett too heartily here because the running backs got dinged up last year to the point he couldn't run as much as we'd like but that has to change this year and if we need to go out and add a 4th RB because one gets hurt during the season then we must do it.

Romo has started slow a bit, especially when his back was bothering him but imho that just means Garrett needs to use his Ivy League brain to run early, pass in the middle and pound late. My football based, social college years spent with various degrees of alcohol content allowed me to grasp that so it should not elude him.

Gee ya think? How many of us have been saying that all offseason?

Get rid of Owens and move to a more run-oriented offense. I think I said that as soon as the season was over.

Get rid of your best receiver and then switch to a run-oriented attack with a line that really does not run block well? I cannot wait.

We should be averaging 400+ yards a game next year with the three running backs we have. I want to see 30+ rushing attempts and just wearing defenses out. I really wish Garrett won't panick when we are down and just start calling passing plays. Stick to the game plan! The passing game will just be that muc better.

Dang skippy... I mean look at Arizona... They ran the ball better as the season wore on and actually looked decent against Pitt in the SB on some of those runs. JG surely should know how to integrate more running into the TO friendly passing game because he saw that a lot during his playing days...
