Video: Phil Mafah vs Notre Dame

Mafah was definitely talented enough to be drafted. “Tight hipped” is fine as long as your running style is one cut slashing type which Mafah is. Terrell Davis was also tight hipped.
Not saying he’s Derrick Henry but it’s the same concept with Henry & Mafah.

You don’t want them doing a lot of dancing.

Just put your foot in the dirt and go.

He’s a different player when he builds momentum.

If he has a bunch of garbage in his way he’s not going to create much.

I wish we could’ve got Brooks from Texas Tech instead but we’ll see how Mafah does.

If we can get him going he can punish.

His run at 0:30 shows more speed than you might expect and a nice cut.

When doing some research about this pick, I saw some Clemson fans on one of their forums saying he was running with a hurt hamstring in 2024, so he could have looked slower than he really is.

Plus he can do what he did at 2:28 and just bowl over people for a couple extra yards.

If Blue and Mafah both pan out, they could be a really good 1-2 punch.

This is a good video to watch of Mafah to see what he could potentially be.

ok watching that we have a starting caliber RB in Mafah. ND defense is no joke and he just gashed them on every run. RB do not need to be home run hitters all the time doubles, tripples and singles will get the job done with consistency. Mafah is that he's consistent 3, 4, 5, 10, 20 yard guy. you get beat on for 3 quarters by this guy in the 4th your going to break some runs on tired DL/LBs.

I keep hearing he's a jag, he's just a limited guy that could get cut. I'm trying to understand those comments because that's not what we see on tape at all. Is someone now going to say Notre Dame was a poor defense too? Lol. He did the same thing to Notre Dame that he did to app state. It doesn't seem to matter much who the opponent was. I see a very consistent runner with lean, and understands how to be patient in the hole and follow blockers. Then when it's not there, especially in short yardage, he gets positive yards. Dirty yards. He's just a mudder. A really good smart player that loves what he does. Good pick

The thing with mafah was is not drafted to be RB1. He is a perfect compliment to Blues speed. In a perfect world they become thunder and lightning like Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart
Absolutely agree. But he can start when needed in my opinion.

Clemson's line wasn't all that good and he made some runs happen. If he has a hole, he's a good runner. I think he may be good because of our interior and our WRs help.
Mafah is going to be fine,he is faster than you think he and Blue will form a nice tandem in Dallas.

I'd say usually if a 7th round RB makes the 53 year one it's as a STer. Hopefully he plays STs. He looks like the kind of guy who can get down the field on punt and kickoff coverage teams and make some plays so it could be his way to a roster spot. Also, your bottom of the depth chart RBs are likely going to have to do that anyway.

Who knows, his career could turn out better than Blue's. I hated that we waited until the fifth round to take a running back, since there's only about a 20 percent success rate, but I am glad we at least took two to increase our chances of getting lucky.

He looks exactly like Rod Smith on tape. Which Rod wasn’t bad for what he was but let’s don’t over sell him.
I don’t think anyone is overselling him.

He’s a 7th round pick and we kinda know what he does well.

It’s just a wait and see game now with him.

I know if he gets downhill and builds momentum he’s a really good player.

I know if he has to create on his own he’s below average.

Re-post, but it's too fun not to watch again (vid should start at the trucking). Another good one at 4:40.

The problem I have with videos like this one is that they don't tell us much. You don't get too many opportunities in the NFL to run untouched for 10 yards before first contact. I know these are called highlight videos for a reason, but I prefer to see what a back does when he has to avoid contact or run through contact immediately.

I think it’s an oversell to think he even makes this team. It he does great I hope he does but they need to improve this running back room.

20 percent is actually higher then I thought. What’s the success rate for rounds 2-4?

But nobody drafts someone and says we want them to be a backup though do they?
