I'm starting to think Parcells is going to be around here a lot longer then anyone else believes. And with him controls the quarterback position. People like to count those NE and NYJ stints as real, like it averages out saying Parcells is only typically on a team for 4 or so years, but when in reality health and circumstance drove him away from both of those last two jobs. I look at his time with the Giants as the most comparable situation where BP is concerned, and thus think Parcells could be here for many years more to come.

This year Bledsoe starts, no question about it, and he also starts again next season UNLESS we don't win immediately and Parcells finds a better option-----Chad Pennington anybody? His situation in NY is quickly drying up and you just know before long he's going to be moving. The question is to where? And probably only one man still has hope remaining in him, and he's the one calling our shots, the man who loves players he's already invested interest in. The same man who drafted him and never got a chance to work with him personally and I'd bet would really want to if given the chance. Sure he's rough around the edges but Parcells had to have seen something in him to draft him in the first round. I'm willing to bet Parcells still wsants to see what this kid is made of.

I tell ya, if Chad was smart, this is what he should be aiming towards. He has to see the rush of other former Parcells players heading south to Dallas, and the trend that's always followed the man that drafted him. He's finished for all intents and purposes in NY, if for anything he shouldn't stay on principle alone. He's still young and if Parcells thinks he could work with him, could be exactly what we need. Also the closest thing to "franchise qb" that we have within our grasp for now or anytime in the near future.

I can't believe noone has mentioned his name yet. Is it crazy that I just did?

Pennington should take a year away from the game to allow his shoulder to heal.

I really like the kid. He has great football smarts.

Here's a off the wall thought. Sign him for the Mim. and tell him to take a whole year off on IR, thus not giving up a roster spot.

2007 if he's ready, we have a good QB prospect...if not, we cut him.

I know, pipe dream, but weirder things have happened.

Pennington is done. Too many major injuries to his throwing shoulder.

Right on.....old wise one.:)

It's ashame Pennington's injuries will probably cause his career to be cut short.....he is a very talented young QB.

I like him as well. Problem is he never displayed great arm strenght to start with and now coming off a rotator surgery doubt about his arm is even greater. As for your ideal of getting him for min and sitting him on IR should be released I think you make some good points but I doubt it will happen.

i'd take pennington... he's not done.

i'd always take a SMART QB with a rag arm over a DUMB QB with a cannon. no brainer.

bring him in, rest an ENTIRE year and he can be a very, very good QB for several years starting 2007.

Parcells is 15 years older than when he was with the Giants, no way to compare that situation with now.

.

Tarkenton vs. Bradshaw. I would take Fran.

Don't have a link but I'm sure I heard on the radio this week that Pennington is having his deal redone to "lower the cap hit." I assume that means this year's hit.

Getting a deal redone is not a precursor to being released. So I'm not sure the Jets consider him a lost cause yet.

they want him to go from $8mil salary to $1mil per year. ROTFLMAO.

No player will take that reaming and remain with his team, nor should they.

Thankfully the Jets get a HUGE cap hit if they don't do this so Chad should be available soon :)

Dallas would have to rest Pennington for an entire year. Coming to Dallas might be in his best intrests. Bledsoe can start this coming year and 2 years from now he can compete for the starting job. Pennington should have never played in the playoffs. I'm surprised KC wanted Edwards after that debacle. He showed that he cared more about himself than the franchise by asking Pennington to play. Then he vamoosed after he created the QB mess.

Chad Pennington ... pop gun arm ... 2 shoulder injuries ... move on.

Two injuries to what was a weak arm to begin with....Nah, no thanks.

And he NEVER beat good teams...even when he was healthy....he was too easy to defend against because his arm was weak.

Does anyone think that Edwards screwed the Jets? I can't believe that Edwards was offered a job in KC. He is a bad coach and probably ruined Chad Pennington's career.

Vermeil had alot to do with Edwards going to KC.

Herm isn't a great game day coach. He is a very good coach during the week...but not at his best on Sunday...especially with regard to clock management.

The entire organization helped to ruin Pennington by rushing him back from surgery...but IMO, he was never great shakes...he put up very good numbers one season...but the rap on him in NY is that he simply couldn't beat a good defense....

Well I was just throwing it out there to see what people thought. I'm actually surprised the idea went over so well.

I agree his injuries are a concern but if they weren't he's still young enough to easily give us 5-7 years. And in a different system under the coach that actually drafted him and not some coach just simply stuck with him, I think up his odds of coming back from this, not only that though but maybe increase his will to want to come back. Which no way he will beable to do in NY when they're already discussing the prospect of drafting a QB in the 2007 and wanting him to take a $8m pay cut this year.

The things I like most about him though are; He's under 30 yet at the same time also over 22 (rookie-mode), so he's been around the block and already suffered most of his growing pains that young qbs do. Also the guy is smart and you know Bill Parcells will take a smart guy over an athletic one any day of the week, which he did just by simply drafting him. Lastly he's got a LOT to prove! And what better place to do thta then under the dictatorship of the first man to put faith in you when you were drafted into this league.

Anyway, I brought this up, simply because I do not like the idea of handing over a nearly complete team to one of the two guys we have on the bench right now once Bledsoe calls it a day or can no longer play for whatever reason. If we were a team in rebuilding mode, then that idea could be considered, the team would then be growing and molding with a young quarterback. But seriously how long until Larry Allen is picking up Henson and biatch-slapping out of the huddle for complaining about a missed assignment, or Key's in their face yelling at their ******** quarterback throws---I just don't think Henson or Romo could ever handle a situation like that, also fear it would tear the team apart as one person tried to grow into a roll as the rest of the team was already there just waiting for their qb play to catch up. It just doesn't matter how much they mature over the next couple of seasons by sitting, when they step foot out on that field for the first time, whichever one of them it is, we'll be seeing rookie quality play from them and mistakes. Which will go on for a year or two, maybe more. And at the age they're already at now, is it really worth it in the long run or should we be looking far elsewhere to fix what will soon aile us? Bring in a guy like Chad now, sit him for a year as he rests his shoulder, next year he goes head to head with Bledsoe for starting role.

Henson and Romo are projects for when/if Parcells leaves. I personally think people are looking way to far into the future here, that they won't be worth a dime once we actually need them. I also truly believe Parcells is here at least 3 to 4 more years, if not longer. As long as he is here so will his best quarterback option, and in his eyes, I don't think either of the two we have now are ever going to be that.

Easier to compare the situation now with the Giants then comparing it with any where else.

1. He was driven out of the NE, could not stay if he wanted to
2. He had serious health issues with the Jets, could not stay if he wanted to
3. The guy LOVES football that's why he keeps on coming back for more
4. He's VERY happy here in Dallas, health is seemingly NOT an issue, and Jerry couldn't be more thrilled to have a coach like him if he tried.

Basically people have said it before, BP couldn't be happy doing anything else, that's why he keeps coming back. Now if you were him and you had your last two job experiances go down the way they did and now you were sitting on this great team that's on the rise, with great management backing everyone of your moves, what would you do?

IMO he's come back 3x now since the Giants in hopes of finding something that fullfilled and satisfied his oversized hunger---and up until now been unable to find it. The guy is at the buffet table now, he's not leaving anytime soon!

At very least he's taking this one all the way to the big show, then retires on top. Just too close to that "fix" for him to ever step away now if you ask me. And like you said, age is a consideration, he's older now, too late for him to rationally think about starting over from scratch somewhere else. Dallas is his End Game. I just don't think that's as close as so many believe. Which I also think is just mostly writers trying to find something to write about and what better target then the Tuna himself, a person people are just natrually interested in hearing about.
