We never even look like we try when we play a great team. Been like that for years now.
They just come out flat...the first few drives are consistently lackluster.
And you HAVE to blame the coaches, because a lot of it is the early playcalling.
Eberflus started out in Bend But Dont Break defenses. No deception, giving Hurtz easy throws for 1st downs, DBs 10 yards off the ball on early downs, so then the defense comes out backpedaling instead of being aggressive.
And Schotty's first drive looks like he didn't study the Eagles defense all week...so they come out with no downfield mismatch throws and early playaction. It's all vanilla. And why go for it on 4th down early in the game when your offense doesn't look crisp? Punt, pin them deep, and make the Eagles go on a long, first drive.
I just don't trust this Cowboys team, nor the coaches. And the bigger the game, the less I trust them. They started the Raiders game the same way, the Raiders were just bad, so the Cowboys could adjust and get it going later in the half. Against the better teams, you start off slow and lethargic, you could be 21 before you know it.
I hope Schotty learns from this year. As for Eb? I don't know. He's hard to give a 2nd chance too....because he's been around for a while. This is who he is.
