Whats the beef between those two? Ive noticed whenever their teams used to play each other, you could tell there was always something going on between them. I know they used to play in the same division, but thats no reason to not like another person, because Romo and Eli play in the same division and they seem cool towards eachother, so what is the beef between Rivers and Cutler?

I'm not sure on this but i believe it stemmed from some comments by Cutler about how he didn't like Rivers attitude and you'd never see him acting like Rivers does on the field, I believe that was in regards to how Rivers will trash talk and stuff right back to defenders.

After that Rivers took offense to him making comments about him and decided he didn't like him so he started making sure to get really mouthy and trash talk toward him when they'd play. At least that's how I remember it all going down though I could have it totally wrong.

I think some of this has its roots in differeing opinions on what trash talk really means.

Rivers (as I think I read in SN) thinks trash-talking is all part of the game and supposedly leaves on the field comments on the field.

But its not uncommon for others (in this case Cutler) to feel that trash-talking can at times become too personal even on the field and at that point it becomes an off-the-field offense.

Their jawing back and forth has been going on for awhile now. Rivers claims its nothing. Cutler I think got offended.

Rivers would punk him on the field and with his words. Baby Cutler and his stupid haircut started crying and ran away to Chicago.

That maybe it exactly. I was pretty fuzzy on exactly what the details of it were.

To me trash talking has always been a sign of someone who is insecure. And lacking in class usually. If you are good you let your work do your talking.

Irvin was very insecure then because when he played he was one of the top trash talkers in the league.

I think you're generalizing a bit too much.

yes in common day life, but in sports it is a way to use psychology and get in their head and gain an advantage...now there is a line like maybe making fun of cutler for having diabetes? but as long as it doesn't cross the line into some thing really personal and become a personal attack. for instance calling hank basketts wife an airhead(or worse) is fine cause he gets to say your just jealous that i hit that and you don't.

its part of the game.

I don't think insecurity had anything to do with it. I think Mike like to party with the ladies. Stupidity got him in trouble and I think Mike would be the 1st to say what he did was stupid.

It supposedly started back in 2007 when the Chargers beat the Broncos pretty handily. Cutler and the Broncos had just failed on a fourth down attempt and Rivers, along with a few other players, was seen a little out on the field talking out in Cutler's direction. Rivers later said he was talking up his defense and made eye contact with Cutler, but Cutler said he was talking trash at him.

Given his penchant for talking trash, I'm sure Rivers was probably spewing some stuff in Cutler's direction.

Cutler was later asked about it and his "fued" with Rivers and Cutler said that he didn't really like him or the way he carried himself on the field.

And so it began.

Wow. Just wow. Irvin, Michael Jordan, Lawerance Taylor, Shaq, Bryant, Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp are all guys who are/were great at what they did, won championships, and loved to trash talk. But they're insecure? Yeah I think you're more than a little off base on that.

Riiiiigggggghhhhhhtttttt....because everyone whose ever got in trouble, or used drugs, had any confidence in themselves or were always insecure about everything.
