Anyone else hoping this guy gets some consideration to make the team? I sure as heck hope he gets more of a chance in these next few Pre-Season games. The guy has excellent vision. Hits the hole fast. I know they have been talking up Lonyae Miller, but obviously we didn't see it. Thoughts? Did anyone get the chance to see him in college?

Tanner has been a pet cat of mine for a while now, even before we signed him. I knew we had invited him to the ranch before the draft so figured he would be signed as a UDFA when he was still available after the draft.

Guy was a team captain, is from Dallas, great character, ran track, played nickel on defense in high school (good experience for special teams tackling), breaks tackles, catches the ball, and plays hard.

The main thing (and this is huge) is he can't mess up on blocking assignments in the passing game. He has done it in camp and he did it in the game. The one in the game looked like he got overpowered, and that was by a safety. He had poor leverage on the play. This did improve the remainder of the game though.

The other thing is he needs to impress on special teams. Decamillas will have a say on who we keep as our third back.

I predict he'll land the #3 spot over Miller and Choice. Been saying that for months.

keep him if we dont new england will get him and make him a pro bowler

I liked what I saw from him last night...certainly more so than Miller. I could easily see him catching on somewhere else and making it....like NE. Rueage would ensue....

Definitely like Tanner. Had hopes for Miller too, but he takes awhile to get going, not much wiggle, and more of a slasher. I do think Miller is a strong special teamer though.

Tanner 1 Miller 0 . Miller did looking nervous. so round one of four clearly goes to tanner. Lets see how miller responds with a little pressure on him. Miller has to be able to convert his practice success to the game field or its ps time for him. Prossman

Tanner is funny, kid is fast and seems to have vision but when hit he just appears to close his eyes and keep his legs going until he is upended or on the ground. One of those defensive tackles could pick him up, spin him 180* and he would take off in the wrong direction. :laugh2:

yeah he did get overpowered...he read and made the right block but just got overpowered. But that's the same kind of block our probowl TE witten did also. He got overpowered by a safety. Our guys have to get lower.

Even our d-linemen., igor and brent, has to learn to stay low and play with leverage.

I also think we kind of need tanner. Miller runs like he is reggie bush or julius jones he goes down too easy. We don't need another speed back. We already have 2. We need more of a power back that can hit the hole quick and run someone over and break a tackle. Tanner is that guy. He ran way better than miller. I mean way better. I love his toughness.

Not really, no. Our three best backs are Felix, Murray and Choice. I hope that's the depth chart unless we can swing a nice deal for Tashard.

Tanner and Miller are the camp stories that fizzle out like a bad fart once real games are played.

Miller looked like MBIII did toward the end of his time here.

no he looked like julius jones the last season we had him. Running into linemen back and then fall down. lol... for such a big guy, 230lbs, he goes down way too easy. Must be the small legs and big top syndrome.

IMO, Tanner is a prospect worth putting time into. I don't think he has a place on the regular roster, but I would love to try to slip him through to practice squad.

Despite his struggles in the game, I actually think Miller has a better shot at making the 53-man roster than Tanner. The fact he's a strong special teamer makes him valuable.

I really like Choice as a running back, but the reality is a #3 back doesn't see much time with the regular offense.

Seeing Tanner reading/reacting to blocks and hitting the holes with a natural ability you can't teach, made Miller an after thought.

This.

I liked what I saw of Tanner running with the ball. He has good vision and instincts. He runs with a good lean and determination. His best bet may be to go on the PS for a year and try to bulk up to 230 pounds and try to make it as a power back to differentiate himself a bit from Felix and Murray.

I don't see Miller making this team. He runs too high and is stiff.
