Well Beast that's all well and good but I remember how this board erupted after the aggressive "corner blitz" was called and Pat Watkins gave up the long TD because Ellis failed to sack McNabb... those types of plays are going to happen with much more frequency and this board will go ballistic. You see what they really want is an aggressive scheme that never gives up score-- and that isn't going to happen.

That was a awful corner blitz. He was at least 20+ yards out and didnt blitz til the snap of the ball.

I think all the pieces are in place for Wade to be successful here. Probably more so than any other place he has gone as far as defense. I have no idea what to expect on offense however.

The use of the delay blitz seemed most effective. SD would slant the RDE & NT into the 4 and 6 hole and blitz Merriman on the edge. The RILB would wait a split second and shoot a open hole.

This is what used to eat the Cowboys lunch. Especially Adams.

We have a lot more talent in the secondary then SD had. Especially now with Hamlin. Our guys should be able to cover their guys one on one long enough for us to get to the QB. I can see Phillips using Roy either as a late blitzer or to help clog up the middle; more then likely to help cover the backs so we do not get victimized by dump offs.Roy is good enough- and intimidating enough- to keep the backs from causing significant damage. With Glenn, Henry and of course Newman to cover, with Hamlin as center fielder, we should be fine there.

Glenn can't cover ANYBODY, he's really on the very steep downslope of his career. Henry has a problem with his awareness, but with Hamlin over the top, it should be too hard, but you expect him to cover the entire field past 15 yards? Get real... Most likely cover over the top for Henry. Newman can probably handle a #1 receiver for enough time, but against Moss and Plex, it's going to be a close run thing. Roy may, or may not, be able to cover those pesky RBs, but how about TEs??? I don't think he can cover a single one in the NFC East (starter that is)... Also, your not dealing with run of the mill O-lines. Everyone except NYG have good/great lines.

You make a good point my friend, playing aggressive will bite you in the arse from time to time.

But I think Wade is smart enough not to leave a 5th round rookie locked in man-to-man coverage. How in the world did Zimmy think that was a good idea to go with a corner blitz and leave a green rook on an island. This coupled with the fact that he said he did not know what to do to fix the D the last 5 games of the year.

I really think Zimmy is borderline ********.

I don't know about that but I think he was traumatized back in 2000 or so when his attacking style of defense was ripped to shreads by running against it. Since then he has become almost maniacal about stopping the run. Hard to blame him, but he overreacted and became obsessed with it. He's gone from one extreme to the other. It will be interesting to see how he does in Atlanta.

What a great off-season this is.

Firehawk, you're borderline (if that) trolling again. Glenn can't cover ANYBODY? That's absolutely false. He played better in 2006 than he did in 2005.

And the Skins have a good/great O-line, eh? I guess Ross Tucker puts it over the top.

Reading your posts, you'd think the Skins were the ones who made the playoffs last year while the Cowboys were contemplating what to do with their top-10 pick.

Do you think he's bringing the roids, cause Merriman was better than anything we had, especially before he got caught, honestly we need another rusher, Canty/Spears didn't smell the qb much, it wasn't all the scheme...

If there is one area that concerns me about the '07 team it's those two knuckleheads.

I hope it was the scheme because if it's not-- we're screwed.

I think Wade is going to field a very interesting defense this year and I expect it to have a very active blitzing scheme, totally unlike the plain vanilla D BP/Zimmer employed last year. Many games it looked like as soon as the Boys would score three points, they would go into a game-long prevent defense and rush only the three down linemen and wait to see if an NFL QB with all the time he needed could complete a pass. Um, most of them could.

Last year the D was unenthusiastic, droll and could have been playing dead and we wouldn't know the difference. This year I think there will be a lot excitement on that side of the ball and the players are gonna love it.

Someone (who has the time and familiarity) ought to do a man/position comparison of SD's front seven against ours to see how each of ours might be used by Wade this year. If someone already has, I missed it...
