Sean Payton was asked about seeing the loss to Dallas as part of a three-game trend of declining performances by the Saints.

“It’s a different team, a different game, a loss. The other games were wins,” Payton said. “I don’t think you’re going to win in this league by 14 or 21 points. I think it’s unrealistic.”

Would he?

Considering he is blasted for most things he says why wouldn't his critics jump on a statement like that?

I'm sure Wade does not care about getting raked over the coals as often as he does. Those who support Wade do not care about seeing him constantly hounded. It is the way it is and not going to change.

Just pointing out that a lot of coaches make the same kind of statements Phillips does, but they aren't disrespected because of it.

Much as I think he should be gone if Dallas misses the playoffs or fails to win in the playoffs, I think the things he says are overanalyzed by the media and fans. Instead, we look at them as opportunities to call him an idiot or a bad coach.

Sean Payton would get torn up by the Dallas media for saying things like that too. It comes with the territory, and Wade knew that coming in. 8-5 Patriots are on their way to the playoffs. 8-5 Cowboys are in dire need of some motivation and change.

At the end of the day, the players respect Wade and that is whose respect he needs, not sportswriters or fans.

So true. He may not have had playoff success up to this point, but he has won everywhere he has coached, including Dallas. Wade Phillips deserves a playoff win and more.

This is a message board where people discuss things like this.
Although you are completely unaffected by and disinterested in anything the media or opposing coaches have to say, some people are interested discussing these things. Instead of saying "Who cares?" everytime these threads appear, why not just move on to another thread? No need to minimize the comments people are making when discussing these topics.

actually it would go like this...

Wade“It’s a different team......"

mediot #1- how do you know?

mediot #2- if they dont win a playioff game its not....

mediot #3- they still havent won anything

medoit #5- why hasnt Jerry picked up your option yet if they are so different?

he would never get that far into statement..

Why tell us? Your beef seems to be with the New Orleans local media. And does Payton have a history of softsoaping losses?

Saying you aren't going to blow teams out every week, seems to me to be not very controversial. Saying a bye week is the equivalent of a playoff win, well........:bang2:

So the New Orleans media is too soft?

No, my beef is with people who blow everything anyone on the Cowboys says out of proportion, and it's not limited to the media.

I forget when it was earlier this season, but Phillips made a very similar comment that a win is a win and got blasted for it.

Too much is made of his comments while the focus should be on what he gets this team to do. If the defense falters, that's on Wade. If the team doesn't make the playoffs, he's accountable. If the team plays like it's not prepared, blame the man in charge (no, not Jerry).

Instead, we get media and fans dissecting every word for hidden meanings, incompetence, etc. It's really just stupid because it doesn't matter what the man says before an audience of media members. It matters what he does before the team and with the team.

A lot of coaches aren't Wade and don't have Wade's history.

So how long would it take to fully roast a man of that size? Would he be tied to a stake, on fastened to one of those rotating skewers?

If Wade had the Cowboys playing like the Saints have for most of this season I don't think anyone would care what he said. Instead he has had us under performing to our talent level. Payton has gotten the most out of his talent whiles Wade's job as a whole leaves a lot to be desired!!!

And I find it perfectly sensible to criticize his work, just not his words.

Most coaches use some form of coachspeak -- a win is a win, we play them one at a time, there are no easy games in the NFL, but Wade is one of the few that get criticized and overanalyzed for it.

I guess some might be proud of having an overly critical media and fan base. It makes me sick sometimes.
