Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have released offensive lineman Shawn Andrews. 6 minutes ago via UberTwitter

Wow, never thought this guy would turn out to be a terrible draft pick. All the talent in the world but the mental game just isn't there.

They jumped ahead of us in the draft to take him.

Thank you, Philly. Blessing in disguise.

He was one of the best guards in the NFL for a couple of years, but then he went bat-crap crazy.

Actually, with Jerry's ties to Razorbacks, his belief in Calvin Hill's program and the Cowboys need for interior OL, it wouldn't surprise me if they took a flier on him.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I was thinking the same thing before you edited that last comment in.

Shawn Andrews-T- Eagles Mar. 17 - 1:02 pm et

Eagles released OL Shawn Andrews.

Andrews, a first-team All Pro in 2006 and a Pro Bowler as recently as 2007, has missed all but two games over the last two seasons due to multiple back operations and depression. He's only 27 years old and was due a modest $2 million salary, but the Eagles clearly grew tired of Andrews' mental and physical problems. He'll get another chance elsewhere, assuming he wants one. It's believed Andrews may no longer be interested in football.

He also had a back injury that kept him out all of last year. Must be pretty serious.

Back injuries and professional football just don't mix together - especially when it gets to the level of surgery.

I was so mad we didnt get him in 04. Our line was pretty lousy at the end of that 03 season.

I thought he was perfect for parcells style of play.....

guess that worked out ok.

id be suffering from depression too if I had to play for the eagles, block for mcnabb, and live in philly. id be downright suicidal...and no i am not being facetious.

i bet all of his injuries have helped to intensify his depression.

btw, just cause he was injured and depressed in Philly doesnt mean those things would have happened if we would have drafted him. who knows, maybe he would have played 12 great years for us.....or maybe he blows out his knee in his rookie offseason and never plays a down. we will never know.

Well he wasn't a terrible pick until he started getting hurt. Maybe he hasn't been able to recover how he wanted and can't get over it. He could be a good reclamation project a la Leonard Davis.
